Re: iphone 4g prices

You can get the fake 4G for 400 RMB, but it is junk. Battery life is just hours and there are no apps. A real Iphone is expensive in China, so I assume it is higher in HK. There is also the problem of compatability. The 3g standard in China does not match the US standard, I was told. If you buy a real Iphone in Asia, you are taking a risk for compatibility, durability and warranty, IMHO.

Travel Tips for Hong Kong

Karaoke

Nights have a predictability about themselves in Hong Kong. One, I am sure there will be drinking. The night will ween away into the early AM hours and there is a chance your eyes will close after the sun rises. Another sure thing is that during a visit, if you hang with locals, you will find yourself fingering through catalogs trying to find that one English song you know. The girls will probably jump up and dance wile they belt out all the Cantonese favorites and drinking games will ensue with one girl yelling "FINISH IT" You will finish, question why passing the beautiful taste of beer through your lips so quickly and than you will remeber its OK it LITE asian beer.

Wander around the side streets

by herzog63

Hong Kong is a great place to wander! I really enjoyed walking around and just taking in the sights and enjoying the smells of freshly cooked food and all of the action that is constantly going on. For me it is tough to capture the feeling of that on film. I remember wandering the small streets and alleys of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon like it was yesterday...

While most people would probably recommend the typical tourist activities (i.e. going up the Peak Tram, going shopping in Tsim Tsa Tsui), I tend to go after the less popular - and more culturally rich - activities. Go ahead, don't be shy; jump on a streetcar or a public bus and see where you end up. Take a walk around Shamsuipo, Causeway Bay, Fanling, or any other 'out of the way' area and see what you find. I guarantee you will remember the vibrant street life of urban Hong Kong more than a trip up the peak with a bunch of other tourists. One of my best memories is buying food from the fabulous street vendors around town. Most tourists - and even some locals - are afraid to do this, but I never once regretted sampling the diverse fare that can be found on many streetcorners. One of my greatest memories was buying food from a particularly nervous vendor -- later I realized this was because he didn't have a license. He had one eye fixed on his cart and the other keeping a lookout for the authorities!

(Ok, so thats my really awful Pin Yin for Starbucks Coffee!)

I met an Australian mate here who was very very interesting....we talked the entire afternoon about life....exchanging stories, etc...:)

Ironically he was moving to Thailand....I've lost contact with him, but maybe I'll see him when I head back? :)
