Ibis Century Hotel (Hongkong North Point)

The IBIS North Point provides without doubt the smallest hotel room that I have ever seen (end before someone asks: yes, I have been to Japan!). However, considering its location and splendid view, it also provides some of the lowest room rates to come by.

Opened in 2000, the outside design looks very trendy and surely stands out from its surrounding grey-in-grey residential apartment buildings. Entering the hotel from its single ground floor entrance, a couple of twin elevators and a staircase lead up to the reception desk on the 1/F.

The rooms are extremely small (approx. 8 sqm!) but provide all standard equipment: Queen size bed, TV, air conditioner, hair drier, a couple of drawers and coat hangers for your clothes, private safe, kettle, fridge, tissue box and a small windowsill that functions as desk. The bathroom is narrow but functional and includes a (very) small shower cabin with shampoo dispenser.

- good location (right in front of North Point ferry and bus terminal)
- very close to MTR (30 seconds from exit A1)
- splendid view towards Hung Hom and Kowloon Tong (sea view rooms only)
- broadband internet access available at 1/F (chargeable)

Negative
- extremely small rooms
- lousy breakfast "buffet" (if you have the choice, don't take it!)
- air-conditioner is blowing directly onto your bed and there's no lever to adjust

Conclusion
If you are shorter than 1.85m, travelling on a low budget, don't intend to spend much time in your hotel room but still want to impress your family or friends with some pictures of your Hong Kong sea view hotel room, the IBIS North Point might just be what you are looking for!

Directions: From the airport
Take airport bus no. A11 and get off at the last stop. The bus terminal is right in front of the hotel.
By subway/MTR
Take the Island Line and get off at North Point station. The hotel entrance is a mere 30 seconds from Exit A1.

I stayed at this hotel for two weeks when my brother's family visited us. It is located near my mother's flat. It has an excellent transportation system. The MTR exit is simply 1 minute away. Airport bus stop is right opposite the hotel. There are a variety of bus route to everywhere. The room was very small but clean. If you are lucky, you will have a panaromic harbour view. I will not call the location downtown but you can get anything near the hotel. And you can get to downtown, e.g. Causeway Bay, easily.

It's a 2 star Hotel.. easy access.. very very small room.. Good choice for budget traveller If you're not gonna spend a lot of time in your room...

We were looking for a cheap, clean and simple hotel on the HK Island. Ibis North Point was just great. The views to the sea were nice (our room being on the 19th floor). The rooms are really small, but new and clean. The shower and bathroom was clean as well. The hotel is located just outside of North Point underground station, so you can easily access just about any place in HK. Also the ferries to Kowloon will leave almost in front of the hotel. We reserved a superior double room from an internet site for about 50 EUR per night. Normal doubles were 380 HKD/night.

Unique Quality: Nice view to the sea, cheap, clean

Directions: Take Java Road exit from the North Point Metro station, turn right to Java Road and you're almost there.

This place was ok. The room was very small. I was expecting it to be small, but my room at the Mirador Mansions was the same size and cheaper. However it was clean, and the bathroom was nice. It is a little far away from central but very near the MTR Station ond the Tram Station.

This high-rise hotel in North Point on the western end of Hong Kong Island is beautifully located with great views across to Kowloon from the upper floors, but the rooms are miniscule. They do have all the amenities up to and including computer ports, but if you can't turn around without bumping into something, all the amenities in the world don't help much. That said, if efficiency and location are important -- and you don't intend to spend much time in your room, it's a great place to stay.

Unique Quality: The views, the food, and the service are all great.

Directions: On exiting the North Point MTR stop entrance, turn right, and the hotel is about 15 meters down the street (and on the same side!).

Not the world's most exciting of hotels - whilst clean and a reasonable size en suite room, it's all pretty basic. Tiny pair of lifts service hotel of 20+ storeys - made more noticeable by the fact that the reception is on the first floor.

But it's a budget business hotel, and whilst it may have seen better days, you get what you pay for.

Unique Quality: I tried this hotel for a different experience of Hong Kong - namely staying in North Point. I doubt if I would do it again! Not the most exciting parts of HK and a long journey from the main drag.

I recently stayed at the Ibis North Point hotel (in North Point). The hotel is right next to a MTR station. This should be in your price range. The upper floors have nice harbour views and costs a few dollars more. The cheapest way to get there is catch the A11 bus from the airport - cost is HK$40, takes about an 1 hour. The bus terminates outside the hotel. There is an Citygate outlet mall at Tung Chung (near the airport). I would recommend a day trip to Lantau Island by ferry (then catch the bus) to see the Buddha, do some shopping and/or have a meal at the Ngong Ping 360 (next to the Buddha), then take the cable car (one way, not return) to Citygate at Tung Chung. From there you can take the MTR back to the hotel. I suggest you get an Octopus card at the airport - its makes traveling around easy.

Unique Quality: Initially I thought this hotel might be too far from the action. However, it is right next to a MTR station so everything is not that far away. The airport bus also stops outside the hotel and departs/arrives every 20 minutes.

Directions: Take the A11 airport bus until it terminates (last stop) at North Point or take the MTR to North Point and take the Java Road exit.
