Island Pacific Hotel, Hong...

A little way out of downtown HK, hence cheaper prices to be had on the internet, but right in the middle of 'real' China town (at least the HK Island side) with a lot of atmosphere, bustle etc that you would expect. A confusion of local transport right outside the door (downtown 10-15 minutes). What a find in a city where business/luxury hotels dominate along with ridiculous prices. All the facilities you would expect in a 4 star business hotel at 2 star prices.
Rooms more than comfortable (if a little on the small side), with Tv and loads of accessories. Great bathrooms (they even provide toothbrushes everyday). Large marbled foyer, typical hotel bar (annodine atmosphere but fine if you want a quick drink) and an apparently not-bad restaurant. Friendly and welcoming considering the size (200+ rooms over 20+ floors). Small outdoor pool (closed when I was there in February as it was out of season) on 8th/9th floor.
A nice Modern Hotel

We enjoyed our stay at Island Pacific Hotel, the hotel was modern and clean but the rooms were small and quite stuffy. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. It was easy to get to from the airport as there was a hotel shuttle bus which left every 30 mins to go to hotel which was convenient. Bar at hotel had free internet. I used the gym once but found it very hot as no one had thought to put the air con on and the drinking water bottle on display was empty.

Location: No problem. Centrally located. Ideal
Rooms: Clean, modern, floor to ceilling windows with great views.
This hotel is perfect for tourists and business travellers. I could not find a single fault with it. I will definately go back and would suggest that others do so.
Had a great stay (and great value, too!)

Was an awesome stay - great value (when booked on wotif.com), and I got upgraded to a high floor, with amazing harbour views - when its not foggy, that is. Overall, a nice modern hotel.
Only downside is that this is 20-25min from Sheung Wan station, which is the nearest MTR station. This is partly mitigated by the hotel shuttle bus, which also runs on weekends. Be aware though that the bus is extremely punctual so make sure you are there ahead of time!
courteous staff, good price

The hotel is not conveniently located for tourists. There aren't any big shopping centers located within walking distance of the hotel. A variety of restaurants are conveniently located nearby.
However, the staff are very courteous and accomodating. The rooms are very small. We can't even open our luggages on the floor in the room.
The hotel needs to invest in venting/exhaust system for the bathrooms. None of the bathrooms have this feature so there are molds & mildew building up in the bathrooms (yuk!).
Fine by me

I stayed at the island Pacific while on a consultation to the University of Hong Kong. The hotel was a short 10 minute walk (up hill) to the HKU Dental School. I found the walk thoroughly enjoyable with lots of small shops...many selling shark fins...and heaps of people and activity. To me, the location was reminiscent of the Hong Kong of long ago. The area is old and maintains that character. So if you're looking for trendy shops you ain't gonna find it around here.
The people managing the hotel and front desk were polite and very accomodating. They arranged for a one-day visit to Macau and all sorts of local transport. The rooms are indeed small but very clean with an adequate sized bathroom. A rather pricey buffet breakfast is offered each morning that covers western and asian tastes. My only complaint was in regard to the breakfast. I received a voucher upon arrival for 35% off the regular price of breakfast...which I gladly accepted. When it came time for check-out there was no record of the discount. However the staff were quick to fix the situation.
For my purposes...consulting at the Dental School..and as the base for site-seeing trips it was just fine.

I had a great time at the Island Pacific between 4th February and 14th February 2008. I was upgraded to the top floor (Facing Centre street) and had a fabulous city view to the west of Hong Kong island overlooking apartment blocks and skyscrapers and across the harbour to Lantau.
The staff were unfailingly helpful and polite. The room didn't look quite as 'cutting edge' as the one in the hotel's publicity but was still impressive with a king sized bed and floor to ceiling windows. I found it spacious enough although other reviewers felt the rooms to be small.
My flight left for London early on the morning of the 14th, the hotel organized a taxi for me ( £ 30/ 420 HKD).
The hotel is between Connaught Road West and Des Voeux Rd West and is a couple of minutes walk to the tram stop connecting North Point with Kennedy Town.
I would recommend this hotel without reservation and would be happy to stay there again.
Good hotel with very friendly & helpful staff

Spent 5 nights at the Island Pacific. The location is a little off the beaten track in Hong Kong island. Nearest MTR station was Sheung Wan (about 10 mins fast walk), but was easy to get to on the quaint trams that run along the main street just behind the hotel.
The staff, especially the concierge downstairs, were very helpful.
I had the buffet breakfast every morning downstairs in the IP cafe. It was very good with lots of variety, and only cost about £9 or $140HKD.
I had a room on the 21st floor with good views of the harbour and the city. Couldnt quite see Kowloon but enjoyed seeing the jetfoils racing to and from Macau.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I am going to Hong Kong early next year and I will be stopping at the Island Pacific Hotel, 152 Connaught Road West, Hong Kong. Could anyone help with the following?
1. Has anyone stopped in this hotel? If so what did they think of it?
2. Are there any bars/restaurants in the area around the hotel or will I need to Central or Wanchai etc. Not looking for anything fancy just somewhere to get a bite to eat and a cold beer perhaps.
Many thanks

If you still have time you better change to another hotel
This area is at the far west of the hk island
even though hk is not big, but where the hotel locate is not at the central area....actually it is an old residential area where you won't find pub and fun.
it might be relaxing to take the oldest transportation, the street tram, to travel from far west to far east of HK island SLOWLY by paying only HK$2
but if you are looking for fun and convenient this is probably not the right choice
