Great Rooms in Non Touristy Location

If you don't mind being a little off the beaten track but need a good sized room then this could be perfect for you. A 15 - 20 minute ride by courtesy coach from downtown Kowloon takes you to Tsuen Wan and the L'hotel Nina et Convention Centre. Although the size of the hotel can seem a little daunting at first once you get to your room ( which could mean changing from one elevator to another to get there ) you realise what great value is to be had by staying away from the main tourist areas.
Our room had two queen size beds and was perfect for a family of four,a really modern bathroom with glass partition but screened if desired for privacy, flat screen TV, fridge and fantastic views made for an enjoyable stay that didn't break the bank. Within walking distance are a number of good eating places that provide good value at a much better price than than the usual areas where tourists tend to congregate and although English is less widely spoken it was never a problem.
If we returned to Hong Kong again we would certainly look to stay here again.

Unique Quality: Fantastic harbour views from rooms and viewing gallery, complete with glass floor. Good rooms particularly for a family of four. Leave plenty of time to check out as there are large tour groups using the hotel.

About L Hotel Nina in Tsuen Wan

by urbanmale_tods

Hi anyone know the maximum occupancy per room for L Hotel Nina?

Anyone had experience with the hotel in terms of room, location etc

Is it possible to book a room for 4 adults - 2 will sneak in after check in?

Do they have strict policies or security guard ensuring the max pax in room?

ThanksQ

Re: About L Hotel Nina in Tsuen Wan

by jataro

Hi I think shouldn't be a problem. Stayed there with 2 adults and 2 kids before.

Didn't see anyone ensuring max pax in room. Try to book room in Nina Tower where rooms are bigger but on lower floors than those in Teddy Tower.

Hotel is very new and toilets are big and grand.

Location is a bit out of town but is linked by mtr and surrounded by a few shopping mall. Need a bit of leg power to walk to mtr station and transferring of mtr train lines if you are going to Tsim Sha Shui area.

Is the teddy tower open?

Does all the rooms come in at least 2 X Double Bed?

I don't want to be caught in a situation where I am given only 2X Twin Bed to squeeze in 4 adults.

Thanks in advance!

Yes Teddy Tower is open but not all the facilities are up and running. Swimming pool is still under condtruction.

The roooms that I stayed (both towers) came in 2 x Queen size beds.

L Hotel Nina (Standard Room) or The Cityview (Premier Room)

by urbanmale_tods

I have shortlisted L Hotel Nina and The City View (Premier Rooms) as they cost around the same price within my budget.

Please do recommend or advise. My top priorty is shopping in Sham Shui Po. My travel-mates emphasizes room comfort and cleanliness more than its location. (thanks to the efficient MTR)

We will be arriving from Macau and will be staying HK for 2 or 3 nights. BTW, this is our 4th visit there but wanted another hotel experience, having stayed in Prudential, Royal Plaza and Ramada KLN.

Thanks!

urbanmale_tods,

although i haven't stayed at the l hotel nina, i have stayed at the city view a couple of times, and the location is great. there is a 7-11 right across the hotel... the mtr is just less than a 2 minute walk around the corner, and less than a 15 minute walk to the ladies market...

last we stayed, it was still called the ymca international house, and was in the process of changing their name to the cityview... during that time, the rooms were being renovated, we got an upgraded room which was clean and quite comfortable...

looking at l hotel nina's address 8 Yeung UK Road, Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong
it seems quite far, from sham shui po (8 stops) compared to citiview (3 stops)
so if that's your top priority, i would suggest cityview...

hope this helps and happy trip

accomodation for kids

by sector0520

its very difficult to book online for 2 adults with 2 kids bec normally the site says the maximum capacity for the room has been reached. i am looking for a 2-4 star hotel where we can stay with a limited budget of approx less than hk$1500 for 2 nights.the only hotel where i read that kids below 10 or 12 are free of charge is eaton hotel. do you know of any other hotels? preferably in kowloon.
also, is it alright if i just indicate that we are 2 adults with 1 kid or just 2 adults, when we book, bec we dont mind sharing the bed with our kids so long as the room is a bit spacious. or will the hotel charge us extra for bringing in the kids without them being registered online first?
thank you!

Hi. The Eaton hotel would be fine as it is part of the Langham Group of hotels. It is situated on Nathan Road between Jordan and Yau Ma Tei MTR stations, probaly a little closer to Jordan (5mins walk) so the location is OK. It has a rooftop pool which I personally find very relaxing after the bustle of the street life.

If I have any questions regarding a booking I always make the booking online and then email my question to the hotel. That way you get any problems sorted out before you arrive.

Hi, I have just now checked on www.agoda.com, one of our favourite Asian sites, and they have rooms available at the Novotel Nathan Road, Kowloon, for 2a + 2 ch (between ages 2-11) at HK$1284 (reduced from HK$2594). The room size is 26 m2 so will be a bit crowded, but they definitely include kids in that price. This hotel seemed to be the best of the six available to fit your requirements. Not a lot of choice. I remember this dilemma when our 2 kids were at that age. Good luck.

Best value in HK for your requirements would be L`Hotel Nina Et Convention Center. If you don`t mind the location ( Tsuen Wan ) and the fact that its a BIG hotel its perfect.
We had a standard room that had 2 double beds and all mod cons for HKD 550 per night. If memory serves me right its rated 4 star and the rooms had everything you need for a comfortable stay. Our kids are 8 & 10 years and there was plenty of space. People told me it was too far away but the hotel shuttle bus takes no more than 20 minues to downtown Kowloon. The rate is room only but there are lots of local stores and a good shopping centre nearby to eat at and /or take food back to your room and nobody seemed to mind.
Look it up and see for yourself or pm me if you want pics.

Travel Tips for Hong Kong

Best time to visit Hong Kong

by xuessium

You should visit Hong Kong from October to May. It does get a little colder in Hong Kong during the winter months of December-January (with temperature going as low as 0C in the New Territories but generally hovering around 10C-15C). The months of June -September is not favourable due to the many hurricanes and cyclones that are forming in the South China Sea and Hong Kong usually gets the perfunctory bump one or two.

Have Dim Sum, enjoy the nightlife, go to the markets, and visit the southern part of Hong Kong Island including Stanley Market So many... Rugby 7's in March is great even if you as I find the sport a big waste of time..

SHOP and STROLL along Causeway Bay. The Japanese department store, Sogo is located here. Why, it must surely be the moment when I realized someone (a snatch thief) was trying to grab my handbag away from me. This incident happened just outside Sogo department store! Fortunately for me, he was kinda small built and I was taller so I kicked him in his shins and he actually ran away. Well, if you must know, nobody bothered to help me. They just stood there and WATCH the whole incident unfold before their very eyes. Yes, and nobody offered to help. Unbelievable. This is Hongkong and the people here just don't seem to have the time for you or anyone else.

Escalator to the top

by dhod

The worlds longest network of escalators (800m) snakes its way up from the Central Market, through SOHO, and into the mid-levels residential area, which is the hub of expatriate living.
When taking this journey up through the residential area you get very close to peoples flats and can almost reach into their living quarters. This gives an interesting insight into how people live. The escalator starts at the bottom at the Central Market, where live chickens can be bought for consumption, at intermediate levels are traditional markets selling fresh fish, vegetables and fine produce.
It is interesting to see the locals going about their business, shopping in these narrow, ethnic markets.

Hong Kong Park

by hkgirl

Hong Kong Park is an oasis in the city. It is located close to the American Consulate and accessible from the MTR station. This is a popular spot for newly weds to take wedding photos. There is also an aviary housing some rare birds from around the world. Not a bad place to rest your feet before heading off to do more shopping.
