Stayed at the Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel, 3 Canton Road, Kowloon for 7 nights end of October to early November 2012.
Location: in Canton Road approximately 150 yards from the Star Ferry and Ocean Terminal. Surrounded by high-end shops and part of the Harbour City shopping complex. Most things within easy walkin g distance.
Lobby & Reception: good size lobby, friendly and efficient check in and check out. Helpful Concierge.
Room: on check-in I was upgraded to a suite. One does not turn down a suite. Suite spacious with dressing area, 2 TVs, lounge, bedroom. Bathroom not huge but quite adequate with separate shower. Clean with daily maid service.
Restaurants & Bar. Cafe Marco - good for breakfast buffet and cooked to order omelettes. Very busy at times. Also open for lunch and dinner/supper. Good all round restaurant. La Cucina - a very fine international resstaurant with a wide selection of international dishes. More expensive than Cafe Marco but well worth the extra. Ate there several times. Good attentive waiters. Food well cooked and presented (also the wine.) Other restaurants I did not try so cannot comment. Lobby bar - small with usual selection of international brands. Knowledgeable head barman and other staff. Nice place to relax and watch the busy lobby area.
Swimming Pool etc. Looked inviting but did not try so cannot comment.
Overall: a good 4 star hotel in the heart of Kowloon. Highly recommended.
Unique Quality: Excellent views over Victoria Harbour. Go for a Harbour View room which I had originally booked before being upgraded to a suite. Position in Kowloon is very good with most shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Also handy for Star Ferry.
Directions: Turn right out of the hotel main entrance for Stary Ferry & Ocean Terminal.
Marco Polo Gateway is the best hotel I have stayed at in Hong Kong, not that I have tried any other hotel. Great breakfast, for Filipinos, that is. Concierge allowed us to leave or stuff with them from check out at 12 noon till 6 pm allowing us more time to make last minute shopping nearby.. Ferry terminal to HK island was a mere 10 minute walk, add five minutes and you are at the HK Space Museum, add 3 minutes you are at the Avenue of the Stars. Lots of things to do. Walking around the nearby areas at night was safe. Bad side, however, was the price and the furnishings. We had a view of the next building and the bed covers and carpets were old (but clean)... it was really no big deal as we stayed in the hotel only to bathe, rest or sleep.
Unique Quality: Since it is an old hotel built at a time when space was not yet a luxury, the room and bathroom are really huge.
Gateway Hong Kong is a luxury Hong Kong hotel strategically located in Harbour City, Kowloon within easy access of a great selection of Hong Kong's finest shopping outlets and close to the city's numerous attractions.
A 5 star hotel, the Gateway is perfectly placed to enjoy the very best of the city. Positioned on the junction of Canton and Haiphong Roads, the hotel is just steps from the world famous Star Ferry and is part of Harbour City, Hong Kong's largest shopping complex with over 700 restaurants and shops featuring leading designer names.
Kowloon Park, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Space Museum, and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre are just a short walk from the Gateway, Hong Kong, while The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is only 15-minute ride on the Star Ferry or the MTR subway.
Hotel with excellent service for business travellers or tourists.
Great location with window overlooking Victoria Harbor. Hotel is located on a higher floor in Harbor City - a shopping mall complex of shops and restaurants. Walking distance to Star Ferry, Kowloon Park and Nathan Road.
Got a complimentary stay here from Cathay Pacific due to a trans Pacific stopover. Decided to stay a few days more. No regrets.
hong kong is propbably my favorite destination... i must say... on the past 10 years, i have probably went to hong kong around 30 times. i love the shopping, the night life...
Unique Quality: hong kong has a unique culture aside from the rest of china... since it was a british colony, most of the things you find in london are most likely in hong kong...
Directions: beside the ocean terminal
A short walk from Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel takes you to landmarks such as Kowloon Park, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Space Museum, and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is only 15 minutes away by the Star Ferry or via the ever-efficient MTR subway.
Although part of Harbour City complex, the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel is a high-standard, fully equipped luxury hotel with all the many amenities, Marco Polo usually offers. Countless restaurants, 100`s of high quality shops and top brands.
Unique Quality: Unparalleled position in the very center of where the action is, and yet quiet and refreshing. Good and helpful staff.
Directions: Harbour City,Kowloon.
A very nice hotel with great staff.
The main reception area is quite plain and standard - but the rooms are good quality and massive for China/Hong Kong.
Make sure you get a harbour view room and if possible check out the room before you pay (some are older than others).
The pool and other facilities are quite standard - but not really the sort of town you want to sit in a pool anyway.
Unique Quality: The Harbour view rooms give breathtaking views of the Hong Kong Harbour... why stay on the busy siude with a view of another skyscrapper's wall when you can view the whole harbour for half the price on the Kowloon side?!
The staff were very friendly and polite and made our stay very comfortable.
I got a 4th night free (and room upgrade) by booking 3 nights through www.trailfinders.com
Directions: Nb: there are 3+ Marco Polo Hotels in Hong Kong.
The Prince, the Hong Kong and one other.
The Prince and 'Hong Kong' are on the Kowloon side in Harbour City (big shopping centre).
It's a rather small hotel even though it is under a hotel group. We were checked in by the Guest Relations Manager and I can say that she certainly don't deserve her designation. She displayed an aloof manner during the check-in and and thus, we as guests, don't feel welcome at all.
Room wise, it was considered spacious compared to other HK hotels. The other plus point is that it's linked to Harbour City and there are rows of eateries for you to choose around the hotel too.
Unique Quality: From my understanding, there is no facility available in this hotel, however you may walk over to the sister hotels to make use of their facilities without any charge.
The Marco Polo Hongkong is a comfortable 4* hotel with a good Kowloon location, especially if you are in Hong Kong for shopping.
Unique Quality: Geat location next to Ocean terminal, Victoria Harbour and the Star Ferry
Directions: Linked to Ocean Terminal
The Marco Polo Gateway is a very nice hotel in Kowloon with convenient access to the Kowloon nightlife, Kowloon Park, the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island, the Macau Ferry, and the Hong Kong Subway system. Though somewhat expensive at around US$100 a night, you get a high quality hotel with friendly staff, concierge, and a nice location in a major shopping center with several good restaurants on premises and right out the front door.
Unique Quality: Good value, stunning views over the harbour if you get the right side. Spacious rooms with good facilities.
Just a few minutes walk to the Star Ferry, the most civilised (and inexpensive) way to get to the Island!
This hotel was part of our holiday package...it is a nice hotel but our 'view' wasn't much...a brick wall of the next hotel...haha!
However, the room was comfortable, clean and had air conditioning...that's all that mattered to us...
Just got my travel docs & checked location of hotel online. Is this really as far away from everything as it looks??? 1 hour drive to Victoria peak? 45 min to Nathan Rd?? Not knowing the area, let me know if this is REALLY as far away as it "sounds" pleeeeeze
I think it should say 4-5 minutes from Nathan Rd.
This hotel is right nest to the Star Ferry terminal in Tsimshatsui. Excellent location
You can take the MTR to Victoria Peak in 10-15 minutes.
PS have a great time.
I was lucky enough to have been put up here once by my company- I was even upgraded and all I can says is WOW! As said, it is very convenient for Nathan Road, being right next to the China Ferry Terminal and Canton/Peking Roads. However, I would be interested to see the new MTR station at Victoria Peak! Last year, the nearest was Admiralty Station, where you would get out and take the Peak Tram, or Central Station where you would get out and take a bus.
Nicer though, is to walk down Canton Road, or through the Ocean Terminal shopping mall that the hotel is connected to, down to the Star Ferry Terminal at the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and catch the justly famous Star Ferry accross. The bus to the peak can be caught just outside the Central ferry terminal at Queen's Pier, or you can walk through the overpass system to the Peak Tram mentioned before.
Have fun, Jem
There is no MTR station at the Victoria Peak. You need to take either the peak tram or bus up to the peak.
Sorry I meant to the tram start. I thought everyone took the tram up as part of the experience.
