Admiralty Station. Very conveniently located near all major attractions and business centres. Great for business travelers.
3 top hotels are located here: The Shangri-la, Conrad & JW Marriott.
Spectacular view of Victoria Harbor. Nicely decorated & large room. The buffet in Marriott is especially good & you do have to reserve in advance. It's pricey too.
The JW Marriotts like all Marriots have got good service, 5 star finishing etc.
But this hotel, together with Island Shangrila, and the Conrad shares the same address...all are house in Pacific Place, with the trains running downstairs. The location is excellent for business travellers, and also good shopping as it is interconnected to huge shopping complexes which houses famous Japanese Department stores, all the designer brands, and also Mark n Spencer and local shops. Excellent restaurants are also found in Pacific Place.
Marriott Jw Hong Kong: Comfortable and convenient...the way to holiday!

If you have very limited time for a holiday in HK, check out the JW Marriott HK which is centrally located near the Admiralty MTR station. During my June holiday, I had a room that faced the harbour, which meant that I could enjoy the lighting display in the evenings! Apart from the hotel's F & B outlets, there were additional restaurants in the attached mall, plus more shopping options (if you have some cash to spare).
I had a drip-coffee machine in my room, which added a nice touch to my stay as I love a freshly brewed cup of coffee to start my day. Definitely beats the 3-in-1! And the bed, oh...so comfortable with fluffy european pillows! After a good night's rest, I feel totally refreshed to start a new day's journey...
I've stayed in the hotel now on two occasions. Once for nearly 3 weeks and once for a week and a half. On both occasions I enjoyed my stay. The rooms are comfortable enough but rather old fashioned now. The ungainly TVs and out of date decor grinds a little for lengthy stays.
Prior to my last stay I spent a week at the Westin Sydney which is fabulous. Very nicely decorated and appointed even for the standard rooms.
However the staff are very efficient and courteous.
Dining was OK as far as I know. Most large hotels dining is usually rather rich and over indulgent. The maitre'd was a little concerned that I was dining alone (would I prefer room service?) but I had a good (but expensive) dinner. Mostly I ate outside the hoetl as there was better choice and it was a lot cheaper.
One word of warning. Avoid cocktails in the poolside bar. My Mohito was like seaweed in gin. Not very good!
The hotel is one of the few that has a pool and this is nice and easy to use. Just turn up with your custome and everything else is provided. There is a bar there (see cocktails above) which you can get food and drink served on the pool terrace.
Attention to detail. Helpful and efficient staff. Good swimming pool. Comfy beds. Well appointment bathrooms with seperate bath (mini bath) and shower.
Terrible TV choice, Crappy TV sets. No in room HiFi. Limited films.

JW Marriott Hotel, HK
by elcbw
This hotel is centrally located in the Admiralty area on Hong Kong Island. The reason we stayed there for the past 5 visits to Hong Kong was because their rooms are bigger than the average Hong Kong hotel room. The bed sizes are of North American standard so a queen size bed is really a queen size bed. When you have two adults and two teenagers in our family, it is hard to fit us all in a standard size Hong Kong hotel room. By paying the price of one room at the higher rate, you are further ahead than paying for two standard size rooms in a cheaper hotel. The service at the hotel is great and it is situated above Pacific Place, a major shopping mall in Hong Kong. MTR, trams and buses are also conveniently acceessible at the mall entrance.
It is a five star hotels with all the amenities one expected of a 5 star hotel. The Chinese restaurant at the hotel is excellent.
As a frequent stayer in Marriotts I was torn between this and the Renaissance in HK out of the 4 Marriott properties there. Although I did think the room was a bit on the small side, the overall level of service was very good and it is in a handy central location. The Conceirge Lounge provided a good breakfast and some nice snacks in the evening, but not as good as the JW in Bangkok or Mumbai.
Maybe one day I will get to try the others ;-) But I would be very happy to stick with the JW.
The hotel does have a very nice swimming pool area and the seafood restaurant by the side of the pool served good food. A great place to relax!
I went on a business trip to HK in June 2006 and stayed at the JW Marriott just on the borders of Admiralty and Wan Chai for 2.5 weeks.
Its probably farily typical of a big business hotel. Very swish. A big reception area with many staff and a plentiful supply of taxis.
The rooms were comfortable and spacious. Mine was a standard room but it still had a massive and comfy bed, electric curtains, TV, mini bar, personal safe, web access (at a price) and a very nice bathroom with separate shower and bath (one of those half depth ones).
Apart from my own room door I never had to open a door my whole time there! There were so many people working in the place.
Beneath the hotel is Pacific Place, a posh shopping centre (Louis Vuitton, Chanel etc)
The hotel is expensive. Most hotels in HK are pricey (did you know that locals get a seperate rate to foreigners? Try getting a local friend to book for you and negotiate a better deal!). If you're on expenses then great. If not you can eat in Pacific Place (if you don't want to go too far) or many other places outside the hotel for much less. You can get a decent noodle meal for
Really nice swimming pool with execelltn changing room & shower facilities. Poolside bar service. Never busy (this was June and therefore v.hot!).
Mountain or harbour views. Well just! As HK is pretty tight with buildings so rather than "views" I'd use the term "glimpses".
Gym which looked well equipped and quite popular (but not crowded).
Plenty of taxis!
Easy walk to the shoping centre and places to eat.
A couple of things I would mention:
Beware the call girls working the lift lobbies. They target western business men (also outside the posh shops in the top floor of the Pacfic Place centre). Not my thing but I guess useful if that's your entertainment!
