Really nice place to stay on Hong Kong island, north point. Swimming pool on top and great views of the harbour from the rooms! Not far from the sublime Victoria Park.
This is a good quality hotel that's slightly off the tourist trail in the North Point area of Hong Kong island. It's still only a few minutes on the MTR to the tourist areas. There are 3 restaurants, one of which is said to serve amongst the best Shanghainese in Hong Kong.
Most rooms have sea views. There is a roof-top swimming pool.

In terms of value for money and hopeless service, this worn out hotel simply beats all others. It simply is the worst value for money of all the hotels I have stayed in during 21 years of travelling. The price is the usual sky-high Hong Kong prices for a pocket-sized room - this I can live with. Hong Kong has always represented poor value for money. I've never been keen to come here because of this, but given the speed with which business is relocating to Shanghai, Guangzhou and Singapore, no-one need worry too much about not getting a room in Hong Kong any more.
No, my objections are really that almost nothing is as you would expect, even in Hong Kong. TV - not working; lamp on table required someone to come from the front desk to sort it out; ethernet cable missing - again a delivery needed; swining pool -closed; business centre - closed. The coffee shop was just awful, like some 2 star joint in a remote rural Chinese village. And it closed at 11pm. The 'snack' they served was an over-microwaved disgrace. These were just the big ticket items. There were other little things - thoughtless things - that contrived to make the whole room just user-unfriendly. Like the fact that on the bedside control panel 'red' was on and 'green' was off. Even with the lights in the room on, it proved difficult to read the writing on the various buttons. The panel faced the bed, and the multitude of bright lights on the panel kept waking me up. The kettle had nowhere logical to be plugged in and had a very short lead.
So. The Newton Hotel. Waste of space. Return there? Ha ha ha. Forget it. The Newton Hotel utterly fails to meet even Hong Kong's low value for money standard. This hotel is run by Henderson Hotel Management Limited. I shall certainly keep an eye out for this when booking hotels in the future.
