BOSE sounds system is so good !
The Hop Inn was recommended to me by my friend Carole, a fellow VTer, as she had stayed here recently. She did warn me that the rooms were small, but that the value for money and location far outweighed the size of the rooms!
Booking online direct with Hop Inn was an easy process and they only required 10% deposit to secure the booking. We paid $610HK per night for 10 nights for a double room. They also have single, triple and bunk bed rooms. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, both with the booking process and during our stay, and I would definitely recommend this Hostel to the budget conscious traveller whose first priority is location location location!!!!
There are only 9 rooms in total at this Hostel. All rooms are airconditioned and have their own bathroom, although the bathroom is very small too! We were staying in the Birdlovers Room. Each room has its own name with very different and distinct artwork and decorations in the room.
Pros and cons of the Hop Inn are as follows:-
PROS: - Definitely the main advantage is the location, within walking distance to so many things, including Nathan Road, Victoria Harbour and many MTR stations. Also within 1-2 minutes walk from Hop Inn are 7-Eleven, Macdonalds, Pizza Hut, ATM, Nathan Road, Starbucks and MTR stops.
The price was outstanding value, at about $75AUD per room per night.
The staff were extremely helpful during our stay and were quick to grant us any request we had.
FREE wi-fi for your stay and if you dont have a computer of your own, they will even loan you one of theirs to use!!!
CONS: - Definitely the size of the room, as there is barely enough room to put 2 large suitcases on the floor. Also the bathroom is very small, with the shower actually over the toilet, so everytime you shower, the toilet gets wet! The shower was also a bit temperemental with pressure and temperature.
The bed was rather hard and small.
Located with window facing a rather busy street so sometimes it was a bit noisy.

The Stanford Hotel in Kowloon is conveniently located within walking distance of shopping centres, restaurants, the Metro and the famous Ladies Market.
The reception staff are extremely efficient and helpful with various aspects from organizing tours to assiting with internet connection.
The breakfasts that we enjoyed at this hotel was something to remember - they were an interesting mix of East and West.
Our room was comfortable and clean with a stunning view over the city skylyne.
The outstanding characteristic at the Stanley Hotel is that of the efficient management and fabulous breakfasts!

First and foremost this hotel is not for anyone !!!! The price is out of this world, but what isn't in Hong Kong ???? The Intercontinental must be or is one of the top 2 or 3 hotels in all of Hong Kong !!!! So awesome isn't enough to say about this hotel !!!! When I mean Perfect, I mean Perfect. from the minute you arrive, the service is out of this world !!!!
The location can't be beat !!! I don't care what anyone says, any closer to Victoria Harbour and you fall into it !!!!
Now let's talk about the room !!!! We opted for a full harbour view club room. The price was a steep $5,000 HKD with breakfast included for 2. But when we walked into our room, my jaw just dropped !!!! I had been in Hong Kong many times but never had a chance to just stare at the harbour the way we did out of our room !!!! I felt like I was in a HUGE postcard !!!!
Needless to say we stayed in the first night and order room service and just enjoyed the view !!!
If you can afford it, then do it !!!! Not sure if we can afford it to do more than the 3 days we were there, but what a great experience we had at this hotel. Now, the hotel has 5 restaurants that are out of this world !!! this place is meant to take your money and take it fast !!!!!
Everyone we encountered at the hotel were extremely nice and helpful.
It was like I was in a dream for 3 days and after coming back every afternoon of sightseeing.... it was great to walk in and just relax knowing your in the most perfect place away from home !!!!

When we made our reservation in the Holiday Inn Golden Mile we were attracted by the very central location of this hotel, and the assumption that this was a "sure bet" because the hotel is part of the Hiliday Inn chain.
Transportation from the airport to the hotel was very easy: we took the MTR Airport Express to Kowloon station, where we were immediately ushered into the free "K3" hotel bus-shuttle to the hotel entrance. The whole journey took 40 minutes.
The hotel is located right on Nathan Road, in the so-called "Golden Mile", a very convenient location, within minutes' walking distance to the Avenue of Stars, museums, Star Ferry, Kowloon Park and the main shopping district of Kowloon.
The Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is immediately near the hotel, with excellent connection to all parts of Honh Kong.
Our room (on the 10th floor) was good and convenient. We heard some noise from the hotel air-conditioning system, but it was not loud. Although Nathan Road is always very busy, we did not hear any street noise.
The service at the front desk and by the concierge was very good.

I stayed at the Panda Hotel in Tsuen Wan Hong Kong for 4 nights in the first week of January, 2010. My experience was great and I have reviewed my hotel stay as given below.
The Panda Hotel is located on the outskirts of the Hong Kong City is the suburb of Tsuen Wan. However it is well connected to the heart of the city by bus routes as well as the Metro which in Hong Kong is called the MTR. The Tai Wo Hau MTR Station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and gets you to Central Hong Kong (Tsim Sha Tsui & Central) within 35 minutes. The taxi drive from the airport is 250 HKD and takes 30 minutes. I would not rate the location as a constraint if you have that extra 30 mins to travel up and down.
The room is very well equipped with all the basic amenities. It has a flat screen TV, a comfortable bed, a side table and a sofa set and a clean and well maintained bathroom with a bath tub. If you are lucky to get a room above the 20th floor you get a good view as well. A Tea / Coffee Maker is also available and the facilities match that of an average 4* Hotel

We have stazed in the Chi Residence 393 which is on Shanghai Street in Kowloon, 2 minutes away from Yau Ma Tei Station! The apartments are very small but I still prefer to stay in apartment than in a hotel! You will find a small kitchenette where you can prepare a small dish or breakfast! The Concierge Tony is great and helped us a lot with planning some trips! Price is great for what u get!!!!

Clean, close to MTR, good neighbourhood

Unfortunately, the Kowloon Shangri-La, where we stayed on our last two visits had priced itself out of our range for this trip, so we had to look for a cheaper alternative. We got a great deal at the Nikko, just up the road, with harbour view rooms on the Nikko floor, which included full daily breakfast, all-day snacks with beer and soft drinks and very generously proportioned alcoholic drinks and dim sum in the evenings. The room price also included free wi-fi, a discount at all the hotel’s bars and restaurants and separate check-in/check out facilities in the Nikko lounge to save queuing in reception. All this for HK$2,150 per night for 27-29/12 and HK$2,600 for 30/12-2/1 (about £173 / £210 currently), which was less than the price of a standard room only at the Shangri-La.
We were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the hotel and although the rooms were a little smaller and the views not quite as spectacular as the Shangri-La’s, we thought it was excellent value for money. It took an extra couple of minutes to walk to the Star Ferry pier and the MTR station, but hey, we were on holiday, so what’s the rush? I’d definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for something around this price range and the Nikko floor upgrades were well worth paying the extra for!
Harbour views of the island, reasonable distance from public transport, outdoor pool.

If Chungking is more famous, more multicultural and crowded, then Mirador is more quiet, more private and somehow more Chinese/Cantonese of a place. And it's is still only a few steps from Chungking and Kowloon Mosque, so yes, you are in the centre of activity!
It is another tall block building here with large open kare in the middle (hmmm... if you want, call this atrium or square) and the views from top to ground are stunning, see those many windows and balconies and air con machines and pipes... but hey, this isn't 5 star hotel and you get what you pay for. I found it as well slightly more friendly than Chngking and slightly less claustophobic, maybe because there's more 'air' between different wings of the building.
It also doesn't have that much guesthouses and shops here and sometimes your guesthouse will be next to family flat and you can actually see here how is the life in Hong Kong, the life of a 'normal' people.
We stayed here on our second visit and actually we just followed a landlady from the street in front of the mansion and lived in her flat/guesthouse... we got our own room with bathroom and had a nice view (see the photo at my front HK site) on the side street down there in front of Holidays inn... and you could watch things going on in the ground floor then, but in matter of fact we didn't really spend much time in the room because we had plenty of things to check out around HK still. Yet, those were really much better views than in Chungking where we saw only to our neigboors rooms in next block, pretty close.
It is okay to take a look into different rooms and if you stay longer you may as well ask for a 'discount'.
Basically rooms are a bit cheaper here and better quality than Chungking mansions (i believe you'll be reading this if you're on low budget), and it is in general safer feel because you can view the public balconies with your eyes and it's not like being in a labyrinth with too many dead ends.
The ground floor is as well full of shops here.
I'll update with photo...
Great choice for budget accomodation if you feel like living like local. Many rooms to choose from with views.

If there's one building which represents Babylon and globalization in this world then it would be Chungking Mansion in Kowloon/Tsim Sha Tsui. It would be indeed hard to find a visitor to Hong Kong who wouldn't have heard of that legendary place, 17 storey building built in 1961.
This is place to stay if you're looking for cheap accomodation, although cheap in HK means something different than cheap in other Asian countries. You will be able to choose between hundreds of guesthouses and hotels here - and they are scattered among 5 blocks of the building. We came here without pre booking and as far as main holidays are concerned (such as new year) it could be difficult to find a room then - so it's at your risk not to book in advance for main holidays but in the worst case you'd get a room in dorm. Most rooms are small but clean.
You should check out a few places, because prices vary and some rooms are without window, so it feels claustrophobic there. Apart from guesthouses you can find plenty of shops and ethnic restaurants here, but also other things not worth to mention.
I found it a bit frustrating that in a block where we were staying (block A) there was no stairs between ground and first floor or at least I couldn't figure it out where there were (and you have to take elevator). I wouldn't like to be trapped there in case of fire, really. It is also not the best place to stay if you fear height.
This is certainly interesting and vibrant place with interesting history. Make sure that you take care of your belongings and you'll be fine. By the way if you show interest in buying fake 'rolex' and stuff, you will be swarmed by by people who will not give up so fast in order to sell you a thing. So, be carefull, then. You could be as well badly cheated and even fined if caught in the act.
multicultural world here.
tall blocks with hundreds of guesthouses and restaurants... and other services
hear languages, music and fashion of the world
... here globalization is the most intense... in all things good and bad. See film Chungking Express which was in some points recorded here by one of most renowned film directors Wong Kar Wai. An interesting stuff and story.
