Regal Oriental Hotel: Pleasant hotel with a great service

by Ivod

Regal Oriental Hotel even not centrally located provides great service in reasonable sized rooms with all facilities need for a pleasant stay. Very helpful staff and well equipped business center.
Interesting typical Kowloon neighbourhood with parks, flower and birds market, temples, malls

Helpful and skilled staff provide all info you would need.

The Kowloon Shangrila: Good hotel, great location

by distrubbed

The hotel was clean and well looked after, several restaurants, gift shop etc. It was situated about 10 mins. walk away from Nathan road slightly less by using the underpass to Tsim Sha Shui metro or a couple of minutes from Tsim Sha Shui East railway.

The lifts had a carpet that told what day off the week it was, invaluable for when you lost track of time.

The main buffet restaurant was ok not great but ok, the Tapas bar was pretty good with advice about wines and the food was pretty good too. There was a wine tasting weekly.

Right opposite Tsim Sha Shui waterfront (walkway across the road) several eating places and bars nearby.

THE REPULSE BAY

by ancient_traveler

The Repulse Bay residential community is built on the former site of Hong Kong's famous Repulse Bay Hotel (1920 - 1982).

In its 62-year history, the hotel was the centre of charm, chic and the Charleston. Not only was it a popular holiday spot for locals who enjoyed the drive out to the beach on weekends, it was also a favourite haunt for expatriates working in the Far East and a choice destination for international travellers.

In place of the old Repulse Bay Hotel - one of the few reminders of the early colonial period until it was pulled down - there now stands a modern building with a spectacular hole built into it which contains apartments, shops and an excellent dim sum restaurant.

The hotel was immortalised in the Hollywood classic "Love Is A Many Splendoured Thing" and the Oscar-winning "Coming Home" which was partly filmed in the hotel's Reading Room. During filming, hotel guests mingled with Peter Sellers at the Sunday Buffet or caught glimpses of William Holden lounging by the old fountain in the garden.

The spectacular landscape, beautiful buildings, impeccable service, fine cuisine and the care taken to ensure the comfort of guests all combined to give a grace and charm to the hotel that made every stay truly memorable.

YMCA Salisbury: YMCA

by jeanl77

YMCA Salisbury.

One reason should suffice - the harbour view (i.e. if you get a harbour view room)... Isn't HK well known for its harbour night views?

and location - bus, MTR - East / West rail, shopping malls, etc

Shamrock

by jeanl77

Stayed at both before. Prefers Shamrock although a little old.

Shamrock's main entrance faces Nathan Road. Lobby / reception on its ground floor (most newer hotels move reception to higher floors, ground floor leased to shops). Bellhop always "guarding" at entrance, safe when returning from late night outs. The chinese restaurant beside the main entrance serves cheap and decent meals and opens past midnight. There are also lots of shops around the hotel.

Prudential's entrance is a few steps away from the main road. The narrow escalator from the shopping mall is a challenge when lugging bags; gets a little scary when someone follows you on the escalator late at night. Prudential is also used by tour groups; these people crowd at the entrance so getting past them (either to get in or get out of the hotel) is another challenge. Also have to get to the opposite side (Shamrock side) for food. Only plus point is when it rains, you can still shop in its mall.

2 double beds deluxe nonsmoking: Accessible Hotel

by jv_impossible

Very accessible to shopping centers and restaurants too..

clean beddings, curtains and other facilities

Harbour Plaza Hong Kong: Kowloon 5 Star Hotel

by lkoberlein

If you have the money this is a winner! Big room, high speed Internet, soft bed, all the amenities.

Awesome location - Whampoa market - Star Ferry - quiet and comfortable.

Four Seasons Hostel: Good Hostel In Hong Kong

by niki68

This hostel is located in Tsim Sha Sui, Kowloon. It's a great location, close to MTR, shopping, Star Ferry, restaurants, etc. The rooms are very small but you get for what you pay for and here you don't pay much, between 150-200 HKD usually. The hostel is located in Chungking Mansions which is filled with many other hostels, and it can be a bit of maze to try and choose a good one. I have stayed at this hostel on at least 6 occasions and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and there is complimentary tea/coffee and internet for a nominal fee. The location is fairly quiet, depending on what room you get. Each room has a tv with a few English stations including BBC. The bathrooms are tiny, the shower is just a shower rose over the toilet, which you have to kind of juggle to position. That being said the showers are warmish and the shower gel is complimentary. The mattresses are a little hard but the bed is 3/4 single so it's comfortable enough. I believe they also have doubles available. I never stay more than a couple of nights, so it serves it's purpose. I have heard some people say that Chungking Mansions can be a dangerous place, but let me reassure you I have never had a problem. I have seen some questionable looking characters, but most people are approachable and will say hello. I really like this hostel, it's clean and comfortable and suits singles or couples. Please be warned that people who are prone to claustrophobia may want to avoid this place, as the lift up to the hostel is miniature and the rooms a tad small.

The best thing about this place is the location. It's right next to MTR, shopping and the harbour. The dining options are everything from McD's to fine dining. Also after shopping around for a cheap place to stay this is the best value for money I have come across in Hong Kong.
