The Charterhouse Hotel - location map by Vita500 The Charterhouse hotel is one of the best places to stay for everybody who's budget is restricted but still wants to enjoy living within a prime location on HK Island. Rooms are typical for HK, i.e. small but clean and functional with the usual facilities like TV, minibar, personal safe, hair dryer, electric kettle, etc. Other facilities include a gymnasium, business centre, restaurant and bar. Room rates vary by season and length of stay but include a daily newspaper and free internet use at the Business Centre. The below indication is the price per person based on a double-occupancy! Check out the homepage for further multi-lingual (Chinese, Japanese, English and German) information!

by June.b Stopping over on the way to Bali, I've slept at The Charterhouse for a night, arrangerd by Cathay Pacific as part of a package. Everything is small in this hotel - small but courteous reception, the room, I dunno what else, I didn't take the breakfast so I can't comment. As far as I could remember, I walked from the hotel to Times Square where you'll also find the nearest MTR station (20 minutes), the surrounding is not really a good area & not a good lcoation in Wan Chai, I got lost twice. The room is very small, the smallest I've ever stayed in HK, more like a bigger version of a cubicle, oak furnitures and older bed furnishings, the room I got was facing the mountain side and a public(?) swimming pool down below. The room, though small, have the basic stuff - TV, coffee making facility, minibar, marble bathroom with hairdryer, safebox. Just good for a stopover / sleepover for a night, but not if staying longer of more than 2 nights.

I went for a big fair in Hong Kong, and this hotel is situated in Wan Chai Road, 10-15 minutes walk from the exhibition center which is also on the Wan Chai side, opposite Kowloon. The rooms are rather small as may be expected in a place like HK but they are well aired, relatively sound proof and clean. Staff i shelpful, prices are ok for business use (I think I would say they were ok for leisure use as well but I would probably prefer staying outside the city if I went for holiday). I appreciated staying on the Wan Chai road rather than the Kowloon side, as for some reason people seem more honest and not so pushy on the Wan Chai side. As for the price I have to say that I stayed there in one of the two most expencive periods of the year. Because of the big "Mega Show" fairs, the number of visitors is very high, and as in the two last weeks of April, the prices double and even triple the last two weeks of October. If you're only looking for a holiday; avoid those dates!!
There are no unique things about the hotel, but a collection of ok things making it a very ok hotel to stay in. It's far from a great experience to stay there, it has relatively little charm and no features I haven't seen in other hotels elsewhere in the world, but totally; very ok :-)
