13th Floor Hostel in Mirador Mansion

Booked through USA Hostel's official website. Went we reach, the person in charge have been waiting for us. The total amount charged might differ from the initial one (+/-US$10) due to fluctuation in exchange rate, the person told us.

The place is situated in Mirador Mansion which is less intimidating than Chungking Mansion. You would feel uncomfortable initially, but you would feel normal after a while.

The rooms are a bit small. Just imagine an apartment which have been divided into small hostel rooms. Very comfortable though.

The people in charge are very nice. Ask them anything you need and they can help you. They'll be at the 'front desk' 24h.

If you want some place very cheap and comfortable, I would recommend this place. Just endure the 5 mins trip up to the place and maybe the small room.

Unique Quality: The lifts up to the place may be a bit slow but I don't find it a problem. Plus security guards will be stationed at the lift lobby at the ground floor. You might encounter Indians, Africans, just ignore them, they are just tourists like us.

There is a hot/cold water dispenser provided along the corridor for you to fill up your drinking bottles/mugs/cup noodles. A fridge to store your drinks/beers/fruits. Laundry service is provided, just inform the person in charge. If you don't think it's clean enough, just tell the person and it will be redone free of charge. Free wi-fi is provided as I see some of them using their laptops near the 'front desk'.

The rooms would be a bit small, but there will be enough space for your bags and actually I don't feel it is small as there is a big window bringing in sunlight into the room. Towels, soaps, hot/cold showers, clothes hangers, mirror, TV are all provided. Extra bedsheet acts as a blanket. Don't worry about the small room cos you're only gonna be in the room at night sleeping and most of the day outside exploring HK.

Budget Hostel

It's pretty suprising to know that the traveller's friendship hostel which i booked through airasia turned out to be kowloon hotel, new garden hostel upon my arrival. Apparently the hostel had 2 different names. Nevermind about the name, the seedy exterior of Mirador, the on and off hot water and them claiming that the rooms are spacious and internet access is provided (which is not true, internet access is provided at a price). Overall the rooms are pretty clean, the price is reasonable and a pretty good place to stay in and the best part of all is they are located at an excellent location. Afterall they have been renovated recently (as of 2006) and everything is pretty new.
