Hong Kong MTR fare classes

by cnhlau

What is a consessionary fare? How does one qualitfy for it?

Re: Hong Kong MTR fare classes

by chinamonty

As far as I am aware the concessionary fare is for students under 12 years of age.

Re: Hong Kong MTR fare classes

by yvr

There is also a concessionary fares for seniors over the age of 65. Qualifications other than being 65 yrs or older for that particular fare do not seem to be published on the MTR website, whether it is availble to those living in Hong Kong or senior visitors from outside the country.

Travel Tips for Kowloon

Weather in Hong Kong

by John6868

Hong Kong has some great weather... months of sunny, warm, dry periods and then Typhoons when you get to stay home from work.
It has one of the best weather pages which both gives you up to the second information on all the elements you need to know as well as all the past weather and seasonal averages.

Siuching, aka VT member ttstella, did a fantastic job of introducing me to Cantonese cuisine and culture during my stay in Hong Kong... Elegant, astute and adorable, she captures the essence of Hong Kong style and grace... She took me out to dinner on a couple occasions and also to Lantau Island to visit Big Buddha... Here she is, pictured at Sweet Dynasty restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui...

Be amazed by these traditional bamboo scaffoldings

by kelnsha

You will hardly get to see this traditional trade elsewhere. This trade was in Singapore back in the 1980s and it seems to have vanished since then but you are still able to see them in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Basically, the scaffolders erect them with bamboos and ropes as high as the buildings for some painting or cleaning jobs. You will be amazed how they actually did it.

Visit the Reclamation Street Market

by kelnsha

This is one of the many markets that you do not find in the guide books. You have to venture on your own and you'll be surprised to see what the locals do. They browse, choose, bargain and buy exactly what they want or else no deal for them.

Ice-skating at Festival Walk Glacier

by kelnsha

There are several ice-skating rinks in Hong Kong with Festival Walk Glacier in Kowloon Tong by far one of the best and Hong Kong's largest ice-skating rink. It has two separate sessions on weekdays and up to three at the weekends.

Vision On Ice charges HKD60 from 8:30am to 3pm and 6pm to 10pm (ice re-surfacing). HKD70 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. You will be able rent all the equipment you need there.
