Normally stay at the nearby Park hotel but thought would give this one a try. TINY room with a single Queen size bed (for two adults), daily fruit bowl that was supposed to arrived never did, daily paper that was supposed to arrive never did. Twice in three nights the fire alarm was tested / tripped waking us up.
Quality of room and especially the bathroom was POOR, provision of hotel information non-exisitant and TV channels available was very poor.
They provide a kettle with cups but no tea or coffee, mini bar drinks are expensive with no free "with compliments" water (the had a bottle on the desk for sale at HK$48!!!!! WOW!!!)
    Internet charges were obscenely expensive.
My recommendation, stay someplace else! The Park Hotel is nearby (2 min walk), similar price and much better quality stay! At HKS1,000/night, definately WAY overpriced!

Unique Quality: Plenty of local places to eat and bars etc, close to shopping and all major transport systems.

    Three Star Hotel

If you want to be at the center of Tsim Sha Tsui on respectable accomodations (on the US $ 70-90 range) but not the price of five star hotels like Peninsula or the fleabag and crime prone accomodations of Chungking Mansions, Guangdong Hotel is your best Bet. the hotel is located in Pratt Avenue, just a 5 minute walk from Nathan Road (hence the TST MTR Station exit D2 is nearby too!) so it is stratigecally located but not a pain in the wallet!

Unique Quality: Guangdong Hotel has 245 rooms armed with basic necessities (but no refrigerator for twin rooms!) like hot & Cold Showers, satellite TV with in-house movie channels, cable TV, radio, minibar, air-conditioning, air freshener and IDD telephone. They have a restaurant called King Palace Cafe but I would recommend that you eat outside since there are lots of fast food joints just outside of the hotel!

  • Close to nightlife...

I like the neighbourhood. At night it's quite lively. Lots of bars/karaoke etc in front of it.
But the best thing of course is to mosey along to granville and cameron road. Real close to those places.

Downside...if you stay at a low floor. You can be bothered by the sounds from teh nightlife and the flashing lights of the signs.

Unique Quality: Close to nightlife and neighnbourhood at night is lively

Near Tourist Area - Tsim Tsa Tsui

I like this hotel because it's near foreign exchange counters, dining areas, shopping district and the Tsim Tsa Tsui MTR Station. Rooms are clean. Oh, don't forget that it's near some karaoke bars but the place is well-lit up so it's safe to go walking even past midnight.

The best area to stay in Hongkong

by tan1415 about The granville road area hotels....

After a business trip to Beijing we had a stopover in HongKong. A local contact arranged our stay for us. Booking a room at the Guang Dong Hotel.
To be fair...I thought he was out of his mind!! When I normally stay in HK I stay at Nathan road or on HK island.
In otherwords I like to stay where the action is, where it's the most lively. The times square or piccadilly circus of Hongkong.

Little did I know....
With a certain dread and irritation we went to the hotel. Because it was so busy(halloween) in Hong Kong we were forced to stay at Park Hotel before moving to Guang Dong Hotel. A few minutes walk.
Both hotels are situated at the backend of the Granville road. What can I say ..... I have come often to HK and normally I stay at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile or when on business Hong Kong Island.
But not anymore....

Havent you noticed that after the shops close down...HK island and Kowloon turns rather quiet. Where do the locals go too?
Guess what....Granville Road area is the place the local people flock too. You are right in the middle of the area where the people in kowloon go out. Plenty of bars, disco and Karaoke etc. But also late night shopping and full of eateries. This area is full of outlet and trendy shops that stays open till late. A magnet for the young and trendy crowd.
At night it turns into a vibrant and exciting place. I just love it. And when you stay at these hotels you are right dab in the middle of it. Location...location....location.

With my eyes opened...this area is the place to go. When nathan road and HK island closes down. The shops here and eateries here stay to a young and trendy crowd. Giving the area a vibrant and lively feel. Unlike Lan Kwai doesnt only specialises in nightlife. But if you want to go for a bite to eat or some shopping it's there.

A downside that it's relatively far(5 minute walk ;-) )far to the MTR and is pretty far walk to the Ferry and big malls. But don't think you have to carry your luggage across kowloon or need to get a taxi. Why?
The Parkhotel is also a stop for the airport shuttle. Giving you a cheap and easy commute to the airport. IMO still the best and cheapest commute to the airport. if not the fastest.(train)

Beside the nighttime when the area comes to life...during teh day time you are in teh garment center of kowloon. The centralarea for outlet shopping and sprinkeld in between the latest and trendiest boutiques. Also the more well known tailors are here.

The hotels itself are just regular tourist hotels. They are clean enough..but some rooms are surprisingly small in size. And at the guangdong could "hear" the nightlife happening outside.
Also the facilities and emeneties of the hotels is not comparable with the hotels I stay in. Matter of fact I noticed that esspecially teh GD hotel was filled with tourists from the mainland.

All I can say is...don't let it deter you to stay in of the best areas in HKG and with the bustling nightlife you won't be staying in the room anyway.
I just love the vibrancy and excitement this area exudes. It's like you are feeling and seeing the pulse of the city. The same feeling as when you are staying at Times Square in NYC, Piccadilly circus in London or the Leidseplein in Amsterdam.

And pricewise....I think it's great value for money. Certainly compared to where I normally stay in HKG.

Except for GuangDOng Hotel and Parkhotel..I think the Kimberly Hotel is also situated in a good spot.

Has anybody stayed at Guangdong Hotel in Tsimshatsui? What did you like? Situation, service etc. I have never been in HK before. Some recommendations what to do in this area? Good restaurants etc.

RE: Guangdong Hotel

It's been years since the last time we stayed at Guangdong, TST. The hotel is clean and the room was quite spacious. We were fortunate to be given a room at the 14th floor so we weren't disturbed by the noise below. The hotel is a block away from an MRT station, walking distance to shopping area (Nathan Road), and a few minutes walk to the harbor and ferry.

On our last day, we had a problem with a rude bellboy, but the manager immediately addressed our concern and made up for the unpleasant incident.

RE: Guangdong Hotel

Hi! I frequent HK and I'd have to say Guangdong in TST is a bit cramped like most hotel rooms in HK. I think they have renovated recently bec I saw the hotel lobby last week and it looks very different and nice. But the area at night can get rowdy since there are lots of bars in the area. If I may make a suggestion within the same budget you can stay at the Kimberely Hotel also in TST, rooms are a bit bigger than the ones in Guangdong and really clean also the staff are very nice and helpful. It's close to the Knutsford steps which is a relatively new place in tst that has different restos. Tst is all about shopping, lots of stores and shops that are open til late. If you want nice bars you may want to cross to HK side by cab or mtr (really easy) Lan Kwai Fong is very popular lots of highend bars and restos.. but u can go to what they call rat alley they have different asian cafes that are reasonably priced. (no aircon though)there are also bars in wanchai area.... (sleazy ones are also there)If you want real good Dimsum try the Dimsum place in Singwoo Road in Happy Valley, its a bit pricey but worth it. If you need more info please do not hesitate to ask.
