Hotel Eaton Smart Hong Kong: A very welcoming and helpful hotel

When we arrived in Hong Kong we got a pre-booked coach to the hotel. We got in and the bell boys came towards us to offer with our luggage. They took our luggage up to the reception, they waited there until we had finished checking in and took our bags up to our room, whilst we waited in the E-club (which was especially booked). I went downstairs to go to the shops as I stepped out the humidity hit my face I walked down the block to purchase a pre-paid sim to call home.

Once the sim was purchased I bought it back to the hotel and went straight to the E-club. I didn't understand how the sim was to be setup so I asked the assistant manager who was very polite and very helpful as was the rest of the staff working in the E-club. The assistant manager left what he was doing and helped me. The E-club staff made us feel very welcome and because them we felt right at home.

From the first day on whenever we required help with anything we would go to speak to the E-club staff who were willing to help us as much as they could.

The facilities at Eaton Smart were a gym, e-club, concierge, tours, Wi-Fi, swimming pool, free tai-chi classes, in-room safe, broadband, minibar, complimentary tea & coffee making facilities and air-conditioning in rooms.

Our room was spacious 3 single beds and a bathroom. The room was air conditioned and had 2 windows with sights of the city.

It was very convenient for us as the metro, shops and the day and night markets were both 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

The staff are polite helpful and very adviceable. They are willing to take their customer service that extra mile to make your stay a most pleasantable and comfortable as ever.

The location of the hotel is amongst the Nathan Road shopping area, the metros and various day and night markets surround the hotel.

The unique qualities of the accommodation is that it has a swimming pool on the roof overlooking the city and the gym is again next door to the pool but inside again it comes with amazing views of the city.

It has an open roof café opposite the reception and right next door they provide free Tai-chi classes for its guests.

As you go up in the escalator you have great views of the city below.

Marco Polo Prince: Marco Polo Prince

OK Stay, nothing extraordinary. Better than most hotels, but there are better in TST, Kowloon. Middle priced, have been upgraded once to a suite. Located within the mall on Canton Road.

Good location, easy to get taxi to train or airport. Can walk to the China Ferry Terminal.

Butterfly on Prat: Boutique Hotel

The Deluxe room we booked for our 4 days 3 nights is of acceptable size - a short walkway / entrance from the door to the sleeping area. It is equipped with a microwave oven, fridge, boiling flask, flat screen LCD TV, in-room safe and shower facilities. The room is relatively clean, no bad smells and such, and bedsheets will be changed every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Good if you are staying with your partner as there is absolutely no privacy when it comes to bathing or relieving yourself. The shower area is visible from the sleeping area, separated by a tainted see-through glass panel and the same applies for the door to the bathroom.

- clean room
- comes with microwave oven to heat up food purchased from the convenience stores
- close proximity to tsim sha tsui mtr

Li's Hostel: Chung King Mansions

Thnx Q guys for the effort. I just finished my trip to Hong Kong and did stay at Chung King Mansions. It was a good stay and completely worth it, maybe not good for someone who is particular about space and surroundings. Made good friends at the dorm. Will stay there again.

Thanks all

Al

Paris Guesthouse: Chungking Mansion

The Chungking Mansions are the cheapest place to stay in Hong Kong. My room was windowless and about 6' x 10' for 2 beds and a bathroom. This is a good place to stay if you are just looking for a place to sleep. In the Chungking Mansion, the people didn't seem all that bad, there were not many people peddling things. Although I got back around midnight and there there were a lot of men just loitering, even though all the shops were closed, so as a female, I was glad I wasn't alone. The Paris Guesthouse in particular had very friendly staff.

The location is very good. The price can't be beat.

Dragon Hostel in Mongkok: Kowloon's Cheap hostel

This is a very cheap hostel in Kowloon with bare necessities. We booked 3 types of rooms in this hostel all with bathroom - Double room cost HK$280, Triple - HK$360 and Quadruple - HK$420. The rooms are small but clean. It comes with aircon and a small TV, with water heater in the bath. There is boiled water and a fridge in the common room. Hair dryer is free to use but you need to put a refundable deposit. The location is great. We took the airport express bus which took us about 40 mins to reach. The express bus only cost HK$33 per person. Mongkok MTR station is only 5mins walk. However, the corridor of the hostel is quite run down.

Great location and value for money. The staff replied the emails promptly and gave detailed instructions for us to walk from the airport bus stop to the hostel. They also sell discounted Disneyland and OceanPark tickets. They also offer luggage storage for free. The area is quite safe. There is a security guard at the ground floor of the building.

The Metropole Hotel: Great stay

I stayed at this hotel on early October for a total of 3 days combined (traveled to other parts of China in between).
We stayed for a night and it was so nice we decided to stay at this hotel again when we came back to Hong Kong a few days later.

The staff are helpful and friendly, they speak English (which is great), and the free shuttle bus to Mongkok and Tsim Sha Tsui was a great addition to the service, though ladies market was not that far from this hotel (8 minutes walk).

The rooms are clean, my family and i stayed at 2 separate rooms, double and triple. It was clean and looks like a new hotel room. And it weren't as small as other hotels which our friends stayed in.

The only downside is the breakfast buffet voucher (HKD 50 per person) when the entry fee is around HKD100 (or more), it would've been great if there was complimentary breakfast buffet from the hotel.

The free shuttle bus starts quite early in the morning, and it comes every 15 minutes

Hotel Panorama by Rhombus: Great comeback!

It was accidental that we found the re-opening of Panorama and decided to book with them. It has been some period during which a change of management, renovations and re-training, when it started it's operations again effective April 1 2008.

The ground floor serves as the hotel's foyer, the concierge so helpful i give him (them) an A! The front desk is actually on the mezzanine along with their lobby cafe. Though my booking was done with booking.com, the front desk has been very efficient in seeing to all our needs, room changes and special requests. All our transactions has been a breeze. We even got a bonus on a special upgrade on our last day with which we were truly delighted!

The room was implecably made, and the view was really fantastic! (take rooms 17 up)

Despite all the exemplary service, we are just concerned with some dank smell in the bathrooms of the rooms we stayed in. That kind of smell when something wet was not fully and properly dried. I think it could have been the shower curtain.

Otherwise, everything could have been perfect!

The Anne Black - YWCA: Great location and nice price

Interesting little gem, sandwiched in Kowloon fairly close to local shops and amneties such as local parks and library to use free net.
I caught the airport bus straight here and right back to the airport after a few days.
The staff were very attentive and curteous, And the free breaki in the lounge/bar, which included a few non-residents, and included karioki a few nights of the week,
The room was clean, spacious(for hong kong), included a tv, air con, ensuite, I have no complaints and would return..

Location, Free breaki, fairly cheap net, 9 floors??, plenty of space and good atmosphere.

alonng the Kowloon KCR Railway: Royal Plaza Hotel

Royal plaza is a 4 star hotel in the heart of Mongkok district, it has big rooms (about 600) and has a shopping center within the complex called the Grand Century Place. The rooms are okay but not that classy but is very roomy. It has a free shuttle service leaving every 15 minutes at the lobby going to tsim sha tsui at the side of peninsula hotel starting from 8 am to 9pm. they have both smoking and non smoking rooms.

walking distance to ladies market, Mongkok MTR, Langhams Place. Kowloon KCR railway is just beside it located at the 3rd floor of the shopping mall (Grand Century Plaza)

The hotel is connected to a large shopping mall called Grand Century Plaza, it's right at the heart of Mong Kok in Kowloon and is also home to the bus station and a KCR station. It'll cost $5 each on the KCR to the harbour and takes under 10 minutes, alternatively it's a 35-45 minute walk (doesn't feel that long though as there's so much to look at).

Traveller's Friendship Hostel: Great for Backpackers on a budget

At first impression, one might not be too pleased with the appearance of the building. But upon entering the rooms, you'll be surprised to see that its not what you see on the outside its what you get. The rooms are clean, although small but comfortable in every way,and with an excellent view! The rates are also reasonable for those on a tight budget and it has a good location too within the busiest districts of kowloon and easy access on the MTR stations.

Various Guest Houses above a Shopping Mall!: Cheap, really cheap accomodation in Kowloon

Now if you're travelling Asia on a shoestring, you'll be glad to know that there ARE budget accomodation in Hong Kong in the heart of town. Yes, it is possible to stay along the shopping district for just USD$20 a night. And for that said amount, you will get a clean room with a hot shower, air-condition, cable tv and a nice view of the busy road. You'll find lots of these guesthouses nestled within the big grey facade of Mirador Mansion along Nathan Road.

What more can you ask for, right? Well, as with any budget accomdation, there's always a small caveat or lots of small caveats..

First, the word 'mansion' is a serious misnomer since this residential/shopping building has a dirty backyard and the common lift lies behind a greasy maze of shops. And as if things aren't sleazy enough, a community of African pimps/bouncers/prostitutes will loiter at the front of the building after 10pm. Well, if you aren't put off by those details and these sound more like adventure to you, feel free to try a couple of these newer joints:

1)Cosmic Guest House - 12 th Floor
2)Mirador Hostel - 13th floor ( this is so new, it hasn't been reviewed by lonely planet yet!)

Of course, there are more guest houses than this but service at these joints are better. Honestly, though I won't recommend these places to a solo female traveller, I'd say that it's still quite safe to stay there since there are no lesser than 10 security guards (!!) at Mirador and closed-circuit cameras. Also, the guards will force you to register before entering the building.

I'd like to recommend a couple of newer guest houses there. Despite the grey facade of the building, the rooms inside are newly renovated and pretty decent looking.

You can book rooms through websites like hostelworld and hostelz.

Despite the shortfalls, staying at Mirador does have its benefits, it's close to

1)TsimShaTsui MTR (the entrance is just beside the building)
2)shopping areas and restaurants
3)Art museum

YMCA International House: Alternative Accomodation in Kowloon

Now if you've been in Hong Kong before, you'll know that nice hotels over here is equivilent to a third world GNP. Well, if you're unwilling to spend junior's college funds on your hotel , seek out alternative accomodation like hostels, guests rooms and the ubiquitious YMCA.

Honestly, this is where I'll stay should I pop into town again. For some reason, I like the TsimShaTsui area due to its proximity to all the good food, shopping and art museums.Since the swanky hotels poised at the edge of Victoria Harbour cost an arm and a leg, I'll opt for the comfy YMCA. That way I don't have to be a quadripledgic!

Some reasons why i like this place:
1)Indoor decent- sized pool for training
2)Rooms are of hotel standard
3)Close proximity to Yau Ma Tei MTR
4)Safe for women travellers, I didn't notice any pimps and prostitutes over here.
5)Next to a Night Market! Shopping!!
6)Close to lots of mid-priced restaurants and road side stalls
