very good well worth the money compared to the rest of kowloon good view over bay clean same as a hotel. tv satalite , tea coffee fac , en suite double room towels soap shampoo etc .

One reason should suffice - the harbour view (i.e. if you get a harbour view room)... Isn't HK well known for its harbour night views?

and location - bus, MTR - East / West rail, shopping malls, etc

We have always been able to use a corporate rate while staying there--we always get a room with (usually) a partial harbor view and two twin beds and it's been, depending on season, anywhere from $75-105... Of all the times we've been to Hong Kong, we've only not stayed at the Salisbury twice. We've stayed at the BP and at the International and always come back to the Salisbury. The location is perfect, the prices are good and we just like it...never failed to be pleased.

This place is GREAT. They said 4-star, but I will give them 5-star. Good service, very clean room, comfortable bed and pillows, and most of all, great location. 5 mins walk to MTR, Star Ferry. Shopping, restaurants and supermarket just cross the road. I stayed in the seaview room, overviewing the Victoria Harbour and Cultural Centers. It was October 1st and we were right in front of the fireworks, fantastic!

The thing I love about the YMCA Salisbury is its excellent location for a bargain price (about a quarter what they charge at the venerable Peninsula Hotel just across the street!)

Situated at the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui near the MTR station and the bus terminal, the hotel is a convenient walk to main attractions in the area, including the Space Museum, Avenue of Stars, Ocean Terminal (massive shopping mall), Nathan Road, and the Star Ferry.

The Salisbury has both standard rooms and dormitories available. The standard room I stayed in was clean and relatively well-furnished. We even received a complimentary platter of fruits upon arrival!

Bottom line:
Decent service and excellent location for a bargain.

Highly recommended hotel. I stayed here on-route to Thailand and loved it.Stayed here again on way back home too. Nice and clean rooms, bathrooms a little small. Near to Kowloon Airport Express station ( so you can check-in there instead of airport ). Great amenities within hotel - pool etc. Pay extra for the harbour view room - you won't regret it as the view is breathtaking. At 8pm everynight there is a lazer and light show which is amazing.

2 minute walk to Star Ferry and MTR
5 minute walk to KCR Excellent location and the neighbourdhood is superb.
That view would cost you at least five time as much at the Peninsula next door

I went to book at the Salisbury, but the prices seem to have gone thru the roof - C$250/night for a harbour view single.

Any suggestions for a place like what the Y used to be like???
ie cheap and close to Star Ferry?

Well, the YMCA Salisbury is a ***** accomodation now!!! And so are the prices, although the hotel next door will charge twice as much!!!

We stayed at the YWCA Anne Black House in Kowloon - a 20 minute bus ride (depending on the traffic jams) to the star ferry and the prices were high, but for Hong Kong it was very reasonable!

hi, sometimes the prices depend on when you are visiting. Check out www.asiatravel.com I saw they had discounted prices for the Salisbury YMCA but you will need to check for availability.
