 | Asia Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 116 | | If you are passing through Ipoh, in the middle of Malaysia then I feel I must point out the very interesting Majestic Hotel. It's actually located on the third floor of the Railway station, an imperial pile that echos the Taj Mahal in its construction. The superior rooms are very much worth the money - as they face out onto an impressive balcony littered with fraying leather chairs. You can easily manage tall stories being told here of shooting tigers over a few G & T's
The lift is a museum piece with a little twee message in it pointing out that if the lift was a person, then it would be of a venerable age and would need to be treated with alot of care and respect. Also liked the original Victorian post box near the entrance. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Railway Sta, Ipoh

The only catch is you have to stay at the Ritz! The best hotel in KL can sometimes be available for less than 400 Ringgit - and this, when translated into western prices is an absolute bargain. The service levels puts the Ritz in the Five-star bracket, by providing a Butler-service in every room. "My Man" was available 24 hours a day to provide teas/ coffee (complimentary), run baths, iron newspapers etc. He also serves an impressive breakfast in your room, whipping away large silver domes to reveal your scambled egg on toast. There is also a "club" which provides free drinks and snacks at various times of the day.
My favourite memory was emptying the contents of our rucksacks, and after 3 weeks it was not pleasant, and getting them washed for free. Not only were they returned but the shirts cam back as new, duly packaged with plastic and cardboard wrapping. Leave a Comment

Rupert Brooke said : "Some corner of a foreign field that's forever England." In this case it was literally true. The Hotel is a mock-tutor concoction that shouts "ENGLAND" at you. The public rooms have their collections of horse brasses, floral sofas and 'horsey' knick-knacks. The rooms are furnished with antiques, Four poster beds and flowery curtains. The gardens could have been lifted straight from a Devonian Village, complete with a wishing well and red Telephone box. The place was built with homesick colonials in mind - and no concession was made to Asian culture at all. I rather like the story that the first owner was so pleased with his creation that he regularly put up a "Hotel Full" sign, so that he could enjoy the place in peace.
Despite it's opulance, the place still has a feel of the "Fawlty Towers" about it - the roof leaks when it rains and the waiters have an interesting grasp of English at times. What amused me most was the group of Germans in The bar one night, all decked out in their tweed jackets and pipes (not the women obviously) pretending to be English. The following conversation tookk place : Germans : "Good Evening, pleasent day old boy" Me to Wife (in a semi whisper) "Don't mention the war" Germans "What war ?" Me : "Gulf, Gulf nothing to do with Europe" Me to wife (behind hand) : "Mentioned it once but I think I got away with it !" Wife : "Just don't do the silly walk." Very often the overnight price for love hotels is about the same as a mid-range business hotel. The problem is that you cannot check in until about 10.30 or 11PM. This means dumping your bags elsewhere until you are ready. For one night at least it is something different. Some Japanese love hotels don't want foreigners staying and try to get rid of them. Others are OK about it and some are automated - so no problem! Be careful about prices - make sure you get the overnight rate and not the hourly rate, or 'rest', which ain't cheap.
I could get into deep water here - so I'll be careful. Basically wherever you mind can take you as regards furnishings - you will find it somewhere in a Tokyo love Hotel room. One of the oddest I found (admitedly on a website and not myself) was a merry-go-round in the middle of the room. I'll stick to something less kinky like a pink medieval dungeon decorated with inflatable models of large alien women with enourmous breasts.... in custard. Leave a Comment

Cape Panwa Sheraton Hotel is located at the southern tip of the east coast of Phuket Island. It is built on a hill with panoramic views of the Andaman Sea. The hotel's has a private beach which is secluded and protected from the westerly winds which means that the sea is calm and safe for swimming or doing other water sports all year round. The hotel is self-contained, cozy and ideal for those who are looking for a tranquil escape with natural surroundings. It was lovely to be away from the tourist areas but close enough to get to easily. .
Unlike other hotels, Cape Panwa does not suffer from the ill-effects of mass tourism. It is aimed at families and individual tourists who prefer a quality and peaceful hotel. . Malaysia Imagine the surprise, expecting to spend a week at the Genting Highland Resort, only to realize that it was Genting Highland VIEW Resort that we had reservations for! Caused quite a scandal. Not for me, but Sri felt quite cheated. This "resort" was perfect. We had a three bedroom apartment. Beautiful views out the windows, a kitchen to cook in and all the peace, quiet and cool air I could dream of.
There were no screens on the windows and everyday a couple of birds came to my room for a visit. Yes, I left them bread crumbs. The grounds of the resort were lush, tropical and soothing. Just down the path from our rooms there was a restaurant. Nothing much in decor, but the food was first rate! The flavor was the best I'd had in Malaysia--except at "home." The hotel offered shuttles around the resort and besides the funicular there were shuttles up to Genting Highland Resort. The one drawback, I'd have to say is that there was actually no VIEWof Genting Highland Resort from any vantage point I could find. In fact, in place of that view, there was a tall building being constructed. I wonder if this resort's name will be changed to, "Genting Highlands View of the New Genting Highland View Resort Resort? Malaysia Describe this accommodation, what a tall order! Disneyland meets Las Vegas meets the Shopping Mall is the best I can do. My visit to this hotel preceded the building of the big hotel complexes in Las Vegas such as Excaliber, however, the grandness was no less impressive. This hotel/resort was located in the mountains, the air was cool and that alone was worth the trip up for me. There was an underground amusement park with rides for the kids. A shopping mall where almost anything you'd want could be found. I happened to be looking for a "Big Bird" toy for my little Malaysian grandson. I think it was on the second floor (American) that I found the Casino! Outside, the hotel offered a fantastic view and there was a huge lake for boating activites and water sports!
The most unique quality, seemed to be the size of this place and the variety offered. It was a world unto itself! There were quite a few restaurants to stop in from very casual to very formal. The food was not delicious, and that was disappointing. I don't know how the average person gets up to the hotel, but we took a funicula from our hotel located at a lower level, up to the underground amusement park area to get to Genting Highland Resort. Accommodation ranges from one to three-star lodgings. Some of the smaller hotels provide air-conditioning, attached bathrooms and television sets. Tanjung Pinang has many hotels both within town and as far as 12 kms along the road to Tanjung Uban. I can’t remember the name of the hotel I stayed in (possibly the Hotel Sadaap). It was on a hill overlooking the township and within walking distance. The hotel was one level and U shaped with a long outdoor pool in the centre. They had a lookout tower built on the roof of one of the buildings and the photo shows the view. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelAddress: Tanjong Pinang township.

The Grand Hotel Beijing is also a 5 star hotel, and one of the few places you can sense the old Peking (Beijing). The terrace provides views of the Forbidden City and the main thoroughfare that runs through the centre of Beijing. It was once an imperial palace before being turned into the first 5 star hotel in Beijing. . Leave a Comment Theme: HotelAddress: No. 35 East Chang An Avenue, Beijing, China
