Asai Rooms online: Asia Rooms shoddy practice.

by expatbangkok

Yeah I've also used Asia Rooms a lot, but this one has me peeved as it happened to the same hotel twice. In Thailand tourism is well down at the moment and I also called the hotel and they ocnfirmed that they have standard rooms available. When I called Asia Rooms they just said 'Solly, solly..'
I don't want 'solly' I want a room.
I know it doesn't mean much but I won't use them again.

Juita Inn Kota Bahru: Juita Inn Kota Bahru

by seqmyra

stayed for one and a half day.
upon enquiry, they said they would charge us an extra half day rate if we were to check out later than the stipulated time.
however upon payment, they charged us one third of the daily rate.

the beds were full of bedmites since we were scratching our bodies like crazy the next morning.

shower curtain was missing and as such the water from the shower managed to 'shower' everything within splashing area.
toilet was in good condition though.

two sofas in the room which took up most of the space.

pillows had seen better days.
request for extra pillows was ignored the first time and was granted when asked the second time.
next morning however they quickly took it back.

banks were practically next door.
saw one new inn opposite this inn. flora place. looked new.

easy access to pasar khadijah.
pasar malam.
food court/medan selera was hidden from plain view.
must ask around for directions.

Majestic Hotel, Ipoh, Malaysia: Ipoh : Back to the days of the Empire

by sourbugger

If you are passing through Ipoh, in the middle of Malaysia then I feel I must point out the very interesting Majestic Hotel.

It's actually located on the third floor of the Railway station, an imperial pile that echos the Taj Mahal in its construction.

The superior rooms are very much worth the money - as they face out onto an impressive balcony littered with fraying leather chairs.

You can easily manage tall stories being told here of shooting tigers over a few G & T's

The lift is a museum piece with a little twee message in it pointing out that if the lift was a person, then it would be of a venerable age and would need to be treated with alot of care and respect.

Also liked the original Victorian post box near the entrance.

The Smokehouse: Cameron Highlands : a piece of England

by sourbugger

Rupert Brooke said : "Some corner of a foreign field that's forever England."

In this case it was literally true. The Hotel is a mock-tutor concoction that shouts "ENGLAND" at you.

The public rooms have their collections of horse brasses, floral sofas and 'horsey' knick-knacks.

The rooms are furnished with antiques, Four poster beds and flowery curtains.

The gardens could have been lifted straight from a Devonian Village, complete with a wishing well and red Telephone box.

The place was built with homesick colonials in mind - and no concession was made to Asian culture at all.

I rather like the story that the first owner was so pleased with his creation that he regularly put up a "Hotel Full" sign, so that he could enjoy the place in peace.

Despite it's opulance, the place still has a feel of the "Fawlty Towers" about it - the roof leaks when it rains and the waiters have an interesting grasp of English at times.

What amused me most was the group of Germans in The bar one night, all decked out in their tweed jackets and pipes (not the women obviously) pretending to be English.

The following conversation tookk place :

Germans : "Good Evening, pleasent day old boy"

Me to Wife (in a semi whisper) "Don't mention the war"

Germans "What war ?"

Me : "Gulf, Gulf nothing to do with Europe"

Me to wife (behind hand) : "Mentioned it once but I think I got away with it !"

Wife : "Just don't do the silly walk."

The Ritz, KL, Malaysia: K.L :All you could want on a plate...

by sourbugger

The only catch is you have to stay at the Ritz!

The best hotel in KL can sometimes be available for less than 400 Ringgit - and this, when translated into western prices is an absolute bargain.

The service levels puts the Ritz in the Five-star bracket, by providing a Butler-service in every room.

"My Man" was available 24 hours a day to provide teas/ coffee (complimentary), run baths, iron newspapers etc. He also serves an impressive breakfast in your room, whipping away large silver domes to reveal your scambled egg on toast.

There is also a "club" which provides free drinks and snacks at various times of the day.

My favourite memory was emptying the contents of our rucksacks, and after 3 weeks it was not pleasant, and getting them washed for free.

Not only were they returned but the shirts cam back as new, duly packaged with plastic and cardboard wrapping.

various: Tokyo : Love hotels

by sourbugger

Very often the overnight price for love hotels is about the same as a mid-range business hotel. The problem is that you cannot check in until about 10.30 or 11PM. This means dumping your bags elsewhere until you are ready.

For one night at least it is something different. Some Japanese love hotels don't want foreigners staying and try to get rid of them. Others are OK about it and some are automated - so no problem!

Be careful about prices - make sure you get the overnight rate and not the hourly rate, or 'rest', which ain't cheap.

I could get into deep water here - so I'll be careful.

Basically wherever you mind can take you as regards furnishings - you will find it somewhere in a Tokyo love Hotel room.

One of the oddest I found (admitedly on a website and not myself) was a merry-go-round in the middle of the room.

I'll stick to something less kinky like a pink medieval dungeon decorated with inflatable models of large alien women with enourmous breasts.... in custard.

Transit Hotel!: Changi International Airport Hotel!

by lmkluque

Until I arrived at Changi International Airport in Singapore, I didn't know they offered a Transit hotel. Also, by the time I arrived, all rooms were taken. So, of course, I don't have a description of my stay there. However, letting you know about this option before your arrival may save a night of wandering through the terminals when it would be more restful to sleep.

Room rates start at S$57.75 (about $34.00 USD) which is the minimum charge for six hours, single occupancy. It seems that many airlines arrive at Changi in the middle of the night and passengers have a five to eight hour wait for their next flight and spending those hours in privacy, able to feel safe while sleeping may be worth the price.

Go to the Transit Hotels on Level 3 of either terminal to book a room for a short rest after a long journey. Conveniently, you do not have to clear immigration to get to the hotel.

Honestly, I would have checked into the hotel if I had known and would have made arrangements a head of time. Since I didn't know, I spent the hours between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. exploring the airport and all of it's "opened 24 hours" options, at one point I met a few very interesting ladies from India and while having coffee to perk us up, we compared notes on life in India and in the USA. They even explained how to wrap a sari, which had always been a mystery to me. It was a fantastic experience for me and worth the extra hours without sleep.

If the price of a room is more than you want to spend, they offer hot showers for S$8.40, about $5.00 USD or you can even work out in the gym/swim or enjoy the sauna/shower for S$13.65, which only comes to $8.00 USD.

Hoi An Riverside Resort: A Paradise of Relaxation

by tranngoctrung

Just around 35 minutes by car from Da Nang International Airport, the Hoi An Riverside Resort is ideally nestled between the white-sand Cua Dai Beach and the ancient town of Hoi An - World Cultural Heritage . 13 garden villas house 60 rooms which were designed in integration of French, Japanese and Vietnamese styles and overlook the Do river and rice paddies.

Make yourself at home with Hoian Riverside Resort with the stylized swimming-pool or take a boat excursion along the peaceful Do river; keep you relaxed with the reading room upon the restaurant with specialities and seafood. Further, take a free scheduled shuttle bus to the downtown parked at the Brother's Cafe Hoian restaurant. Acknowledged this beautiful resort is managed by Khaisilk Corporation.
