Alwar city is located in the northeastern part of the state of Rajasthan. It lies 170 km south of Delhi and is 150 Km from Jaipur.
We went here mainly because of its proximity to the Sariska Tiger Reserve.

What Ashoka!
Another BIG thank you to Gill for this side trip (2 of 2).
After fourteen hours on a night train with a stinking cold (am I wingeing again?) we arrived at Alwar. It had been raining all night (RAIN???) and it was freezing. The roads were awash with a porridge-like quagmire of filth (to be waded through...) sneakily veiling the potholes everywhere. All accommodation
beyond our budget except the cheapest room in a nasty damp little cesspit. The name? Ashoka Hotel. And it certainly was that!
We spent all day discovering inaccuracies in the fabled Lonely Planet guide whilst trying to arrange tomorrows trip. Nearly called it off after taking three bicycle rickshaws across the town in the sludge and then the rain had begun to fall again.
