`the last resort': Jilling Resort

Jilling resort has a few cottages spread out over a wooded hill, each about 10 mins walk from the other and at different heights. These are effectively private accomodation, meals are provided by resident caretakers.
A great place to escape to, where you really are away from the madness of city life. No phones or television or room service or even any signs of traffic, but thats definately a positive. The surrounding woods are great to walk around, the weather great and the views - incredible. The walk up to the estate is a bit steep, but well worth the effort once you`re there. The food - not the room service option, but its good wholesome tasty stuff, cooked by the cottage caretakers.
It offers great walks, especially the one up to the ridge- and some great views from up there.

Unique Quality: The highest cottage is near a ridge, which offers some stunning views of the valley, of the clouds and of the plains ahead.
On the other side, you can see the entire Garhwal Himalaya range on most clear days. That excludes much of the hazy summer and the usually cloudy monsoon. September to March is the best time to catch a good view of the mighty peaks. During our stay, the cloud cover lifted for a short while one day- to reveal some of the majestic view...
The person who owns the place is a guy called Steve Lal. Extremely interesting person, and he says that the way he looks after the property is to just leave it be...

The Last Resort: Homestay at a resort

This is a great place to stay. the charges include food and the occasional leech. It's run by very friendly people, and the food is quite darned good.

Unique Quality: The fact that I did not hear a single vehicle for four days. The fact that there is just no link with your world through television, etc.The fact that when I got back to Delhi, I had to struggle to remember my mail passwords...
