Please help..!!
Hi,
I planned a bit of my trip with my spouse during july end (25th - 31st)
From delhi to pathankot by air (no stay at pathankot)
By road to Dalhousie – stay for 3 days/ 4 nights or so
Visit khajjiar
And Mcleod Ganj & Triund (may be one night stay over there)
Then back to Dalhousie-pathankot (by road – no stay there again!! ) and then by air to Delhi !
I also intend to include Lucknow in my trip somehow.!!
Complete trip should be of one week... like starting from Monday morning/Sunday night n ending Saturday night/Sunday morning.
I need HELP HELP HELP ..!!
Please help me planning this trip. Advise me what will be best option to cover these areas.
Including hotel options in all staying places and mode of transport best to travel at that time. Will it be monsoon already??

Some of your trip looks possible, just give yourself time between Dalhouise and Mcloed Ganji.
As for Lucknow I would scrap it. that will be to much for such a short visit.
Himachal Pradesh is very senic state set up in the Alpine of the Himalayas, you should focus all your time there and leave Lucknow for another trip.
There is an airport in Gaggal just down the road from Mcloed Ganji, can you get a flight from there back to Delhi.
Just another option have you considered taking a flight to Amritsar to see the Golden Temple and from there make your way to Dalhousie that is a far better location then Lucknow. I regard the Golden Temple the No.1 sight in India to see beating the Taj Mahal.

Have u travelled by air to gaggal.. I cudnt find any flight though...
N as of lucknow...I ws actually thinking to keep lucknow saperate.. Like aftr returning to delhi n thn nxt day to lucknw..

Ok, Sounds like you are Indian.
My answer is no I have not flown to gaggal, I was looking at the map of Himachel Pradesh and see a little airport, But if you have no luck finding a flight then maybe it is not popular airport.
Ok, you say not interested in Amritsar, that is fine but you have a good reason for going to Lucknow. Then continue with your plan and leave Lucknow until you return back to Delhi and see how much time you have left.
you have enough time for your trip in Himachel Pradesh but I don't know about Lucknow. I take it you will travel by train.
The answer to your other question is yes I have been to India many times and my last trip was up in Himachel Pradesh.

I was reading the question and the answers with interest. I dont' think there is regular flight to Pathankot. The best way to travel to Dalhousie from Delhi by night train to Pathankot, then by road to Dalhousie ( 4 hrs)- to Mc Leodganj/ Dharamshala- back to Pathankot- Night train to Delhi. For Lucknow, you can take Shatabdi Express or any express train to Kanpur early morning- by road ( 2 hrs) to Lucknow- back same way.
I agree with Earthflyer, Himachal is today perhaps most beautiful, peaceful, scenic state of India. Gaggal has an airstrip, not an airport. Now you can buy your tickets accordingly.

I have another suggestion.From Delhi take the Kingfisher flight to Dharamshala.Stay at Dharamshala/Mcleodganj for 2 nights.Drive down to Dalhousie.Stay at Dalhousie/Khajjiar for 3 nights.Sixth night take the night train from Pathankot to Delhi.Catch a flight to Lucknow or a train like Shatabdi Express.7th Day you are in Lucknow.If you want you can cut down 1 day at Dalhousie and make it a 2 day stay.

I fully agree with WWF Ranger. The suggestion given by him seems to be the most logical one. I really appreciate, I should have thought that option as I have travelled to that part many times. This is the best possible tour itenerary indeed!

till thn i'd love to have some tips n suggestions for visiting and travelling to himachal pradesh from frequent travellers..!!
also, excluding lucknow... wht price estimates you think i mit hv.. including all hotel, travel expenses..!
air india flies to pathankot fr around 2,500 rs per person... hw much does train costs..? i chose airways jst to save time ,..! :)

Have you looked at www.jagsonairlines.com, they have flights from Delhi to Dharamsala via Gaggal airport which is 15km south west from Dharamsala.

27th july: chk in Dalhousie rest and sightseeing .. night stay at dalhousie
28th july: sightseeing at dalhousie and reach khajjiar, night stay at khajjiar
29th july: sightseeing at khajjiar n evening reach dharamshala. night stay at dharamshala
30th july: visit mcleodganj n sightseeing, evening reach pthnkt n take train to lucknow
31st july: reach stay rest, roam around.. night stay at lucknow
1st august: fly back to delhi..! one hour travel
option 2:
26th july night: take bus n reach Dharamshala by early morning
27th july: visit mcleodganj and set for khajjiar in evening stay at khajjiar
28th july: sightseeing at khajjiar... evening set for dalhousie, night stay at dalhousie
29th july: sightseeing.. night stay in Dalhousie
30th july: sightseeing evening set for pathankot and catch night train for lucknow
31st july: stay rest roam around... night stay at lucknow.
1st august: fly back delhi... one hour travel
option 3:
26th july night: catch train n reach pathankot in morning around 4 am...
27th july: chk in Dalhousie rest and sightseeing .. night stay at dalhousie
28th july: visit khajjiar .. sightseeing at khajjiar n evening/night reach pathankot to take train to lucknow
29th july.. morning reach lucknow, stay rest roam around,
30th july: stay roam around, take night train to delhi
31st reach delhi... rest rest rest,,..!!

Sounds like you could do with an extra day or two.
It's a shame you need to go to Lucknow, but understand you have family their and want to see them.
All I can say is pick one and see what happens on your trip.
