    Goa in a resort!

    by

We had an amazing time when we visited Goa for the first time in 2004. We were a couple and an infant of 15 months. We loved the place, the food and the staff took really good care of us.
After that I have visited Goa numerous times, each time I checked for the tariff they were very expensive and hence chose some other place which is near to the other beaches.

Only drawback of this place, its far off from the action beaches of North Goa and also away from the secluded white sands of South Goa.
Plus point, once inside the resort, you wouldnt need a thing. Very near to Panjim city, close to Miramar & Dona Paula beaches.

    Unique Quality: Great pool,
    Lovely food
    good child care facilities

  • A RECENT REFLECTION OF CIDADE 2009

    by

What a sham! If you are NOT Indian do not stay at this hotel. Granted it is a lovely hotel but sadly it is not for a holiday! It is full of creepy, perving indian business men and their arrogant and rude family members.

We have spent the last 3 weeks in this "resort" and words cannot describe how awful the hotel was for international holiday makers

From the horrendous service in the restaurants to arrogant, rude and disturbing behaviour from indian guests including men taking photos of white children onsite at the pool without consent, being pushed out of the queues, poor service, cold food, ..... read on!

The hotel is sold as a tourist hotel in uk brochures and other international brochures. This hotel has 210 rooms only 20 rooms allocated to international holiday makers and the remaining all for conference business guests and wedding guests as quoted by the Front Office Manager.

As admitted by hotel senior managment this hotel priority is conferences and weddings. All indian orientated which meant we were subjected to hoards of male dominated business conferences who took great pleasure taking pictures of my family sunbathing and more disturbing.......taking pictures of our children despite being apporached and told to stop. The indian guests displayed appalling behaviour towards everyone and behaviour that has to be seen to be believed.

Quote from staff “ the guests have money but no manners!

    entertainment
there is no entertainment unless you are attending a function such as a wedding or business conference. When these events take place crowds of people turn up at hotel and have to walk past through the pool area - again taking pictures, staring, and disturbing the “peacefulness of the pool area and by the end of the night abusing the facilities that we were staying in.

Nothing at all to do other than get a taxi out of there!! With small children this was not ideal as very tiresome! Although a better service outside in Panjim and alot cheaper.

    No smoking
applies at this hotel although nit advertised by uk operators.
Although all international guests appeared to adhere indian guests smoked and threw cigarette ends anywhere

    Beach
No sunbeds allowed on the beach!!!!! So beach not used!
No swimming is advised as water is oil! From the port opposite

    Restaurants
Cafe azul - limited menu for international travellers.
Average wait for your meal 45mins and if you are lucky the rest of the meal will show up 30 mins later.

It took 4 days for the waiters to inform us that they had childrens menu, childrens meals took average of 45-50mins to arrive.

    Tables dont get cleared
You have to chase up everything!!

    Buffet
£10.00 per head for cold food and indian menu

    BBQ
£50.00 for 4 people - granted the food was better but expensive!

    Pool side bar food
Takes average of 20mins to come and reasonably priced. I
Inconsitency of what you can order, one day you can order ice cream, next day you cant!!???

    Room service
Food arrived cold. The side salad and hot side dishes to go with main dinner arrived 35 mins before main meal leaving them cold and another disjointed meal

    Breakfast buffet
    Intimidating!!
Again subjected to hoards of male business conference attendees.
A seperate restaurant is needed for them!!
It was not ideal being on holiday in beach/pool attire shorts etc and being stared at by business men in suits !

    Replenshiment non exsistant!

    Service
Waiters all from calcutta - look at you as if you are from another planet, they have no direction, they are all running about like scared headless chickens and don’t understand you!
    F&B managers are useless.
28 mins wait to get the bill

    Kids Club
    No kids club structure
Magic show started 1 hour early so we missed it.
In 3 weeks we had 10 minutes of a man making balloons animals.
Park gets locked up in evening so kids have nothing to do
Kiddies pool - indian guests let children poo in it!

    Pool
The pool attendants were great! They maintained it well, challenged the rude, inappropriate behaviour from indian guests, monitored the children. All credit to them as without them this was one area that was a pleasure to be at!
We witnessed screaming shouting indian business men who stripped off into underwear to swim!
Indian women fully dressed going into pool and removing all your items off your sunbed to read, use or sleep on your towel!!

Room - booked as standard twin room
No twin beds on arrival – told Thomson and First Choice do not notify them of requirements!!
Room above staff entrance to culinary college that is onsite at hotel
Constant whistling from car park attendants from 6am - midnight!!
    Tannoys
Fridge mouldy and not working (diabetic insulin inactive as every fridge broken!)
Mini bar not replensished but charged 21 cans!!!
    Mini bar cheaper than bar!!
Tv broken - reported but never fixed

Overall an expensive holiday for an horrendous experience!

This hotel needs to be removed as a tourist place or needs a kick up the backside!

  • Pathetic

    by

I had taken a package for 3 days 4 nights for Goa. We stayed at Cidade de Goa. It is a pathetic hotel. The management is very poor and so are the services they offer. The hotel management makes no effort to distinguish their services based on the customers they have. The cruise they offer is simply said terrible and no care is taken of the guests. Dont even think about staing at this hotel.

    Nothing is too much bother

    by

We had 2 weeks at the CdG, in a Premier Room facing the sea. The room was air-conditioned, and very comfortable. The hotel offers a great deal to the traveller. 4 restaurants, 2 bars, entertainment, swimming pool, beauty treatments, the list goes on a fair bit

Unique Quality: The pool area overlooks the sea, although it really is the mouth of a major river. Across the river, is a major port. But this is not mentioned to put folk off, it is just a fact of life.

The staff at the hotel are some of the most helpful that I have ever encountered. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone.

The pool is clean and there are just about enough loungers for everyone, but the towels get out there early!!

Directions: Get a taxi from Panjim, it's the easiest way really!

    Amazing Resort with excellent food

    by

An amazing hotel with an extremely warm and friendly staff. We were there for our 2nd anniversary in December 2005, just before christmas and we felt the resort was worth every penny we payed for.
The hotel has a nice earthly feel to it and is done up in nice warm colours, most of the rooms have an nice view of the Arabian sea.
The food is extremely nice and well prepared and I would suggest you try out all the restaurants that the resort houses as each have a separate and distinct theme and flavour to it. But, my recommendation to all sea food lovers would be the Beach barbeque which I believe happens on Saturday evenings and the food is amazing.
Overall staying at Cidade de Goa made our trip to Goa all the more pleasurable.

Unique Quality: Do try the beach barbeque on saturdays

Directions: Located at Dona Paula, close to Panaji (Panjim), the capital of Goa

  • Nice place for 4-5 days....

    by

Its a very nice place to spend 4-5 days, good view of sea from the rooms. I guess the best part is the food at this hotel. The buffet at Azul is great, I stayed there for 4-5 days and they created amazing variety of food, salad and deserts. Even after eating at the same place for 5 days, I still had an apetite.

The beach is small, but reasonably okay.

Rooms are not the best in the town, but average, there I would rate it less.

    Room service is okay.

Kids room and the staff there is extremely good.

    Cidade de Goa

    by

Our hotel "Cidade de Goa" is set on its own on Vainguinim beach not far from the state capital Panjim.

Unique Quality: The hotel is built in a Portugese hacienda style set in beautifully landscaped gardens.
There is a large swimming pool which was always warm and several very good restaurants and bars. There was also a daily activity programme where you could try your hand at a variety of things including fruit and vegetable carving and you could even take a tour of the hotel kitchens!
The rooms were large and had everything you would expect of a hotel of this standard.

    Goa

    by

A very pleasent hotel but if booked other than as a package, can be quite expensive at over $200.00 a night. The upside of booking independently is that you can book a superior room which all face the sea, the standard rooms face inland and would be less appealing. Also ask for a room at least on the third floor, as you need this height to be able to get a good view across the grounds, the beach and ocean. Its downside is that the beach is not that long that you can take good walks. The property does however have extensive grounds with sun loungers placed throughout so there is always an area you can find which gives more than a modicum of privacy. There are numerous restaurants on the property all of which offer more than acceptable food. The hotel runs free minibus to the Capitol Panjim each day which is worth a visit. A very modern and well run hotel and a stay of 4/5 days is ideal.
Booking a 3 night, 4 day package with Indian Airways give you a good deal at this hotel at $520 from Mumbai and $1000 from Delhi, for both hotel room and airfare plus ground transportation. this provides a standard room but no doubt the hotel would upgrade upon payment of an extra fee if available,

The Old Goa Karmali Railway station is about 9 miles from the hotel

Unique Quality: The hotel has a good sized pool although many guests lounge either at the beach which runs the length of the property, or alternativley in the sizable grounds

Directions: About 20 min drive from Karmali railway station (approx $20.00 by taxi)

Cidade de Goa

Can anyone please help me with the food rates in Cidade De Goa..Approximate per head food rates for a meal would be how much..??

Re: Cidade de Goa

by Avijayan

It would depend on the meal and if your looking at the buffet(b) or ala carte(ac) or during weekdays or weekends or during christmas/new year...all mentioned below are per head & without alcoholic drinks.....

breakfast (b) - Rs500/ + tax
breakfast(ac) - Rs350/ + tax (again depends on what you order, this is a ballpark figure)

lunch(b) - Rs700/ + tax
lunch(ac) - Rs1000/ + tax

dinner(b) - Rs800/ + tax
dinner(ac) - Rs1000/ + tax

* If its a weekend, add 25%
* If during christmas/new year, it would be flat Rs5000/ per head for the dinner, but would include drinks & a wide spread, along with it comes the live band & fireworks etc etc...
* If your staying there, take bed & breakfast, have your lunch & dinner outside, there are many awesome eat outs all around goa, which you can have a meal at 1/3 the price of any 4*/5* like cidade de goa

Hope the above helps.

Cheers!
