Baga's Best Hotel on the beach

    by

This is the second time we have stayed here.
It is a wonderful hotel, which is made even better by all the staff that work there. The Hotel itself is a little tired and could do with a make over. It is a couple of mins down to the beach which is beautiful, with all the shacks you could ever need. We will certtanily be going back again and staying at CSM. On CSM road there is a restaurant called Fire & Ice they do the most fantastic steaks especially The Chateaubriand which cost around £4.00 per person...!
There are so many restaurants that do wonderful food.

Unique Quality: The staff are brilliant and they even remembered us from last year even our names.... You can be on the beach within a few mins and there is also a pool which is small, but we never used it as we went on to the beach and stayed at Bobbys Shack everyday. If you do go you must go to Mojim Beach which is quieter and they don't have the sellars there which sometimes can be a bit painful.

"Baga Beach"

In October, it was still not peak tourist season. Fortunately, it meant there were smaller crowds on the beach, and accomodation was cheaper. Unfortunately, it also meant that many famous spots like Tito's were closed. And since it was slim picking for all the touts / street vendors, there were a lot more annoying interruptions from somebody wanting to sell us something or the other..

"Colonia Santa Maria"

This is the view from the lodge I stayed in for 2 nights - quite ordinary rooms, but an excellent location, bang on Baga beach.
Also, at 1300 for a double room with breakfast inclusive, was not a bad deal at all !

"Goa - India"

Visited Goa with my friend Paula as a treat when I finished my contract working for Monarch Airlines.
Had a 2 week stay there at the Colonia Santa Maria Hotel on Baga Beach which was an ok hotel with nice staff and good food.
Hired a taxi driver, Dilip, who took us out to the hippy market at Anjuna and also to see some temples and a Spice Plantation. Spent most of our days on the beach, had dinner at the hotel (included) and then our nights at one of the beach shack bars or local open air nightclubs.
Had a good time in spite of the mosquitos and extreme heat!

Colonia Santa Maria or CSM is a nice place to stay. You stay in a little cottage type building consisting of four separate rooms each with Balcony , bathroom, living room, ceiling fan and fridge. This is an Ideal base for the beach. The restuarant and bar are very good.
When we visited there we met a couple from the Elephant and Castle who were stopping at the Ronil Royale and didnt much rate it. For the price, CSM is better value. Try Jewel in the Crown. It is the best location hotel in North Goa. CSM road is one of the best places to eat and drink too.

Colonia Santa Maria - Baga Beach

I am travelling to Goa in March and I am staying at the Colonia Santa Maria in Baga. I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows the property or has stayed there. Also is there any restaurants around that are especially good?

I've never stayed at the CSM but it has a good reputation...its bang in the heart of Baga so there are tons of good restaurants in the area.

I stayed there on feb 2005 and will be there on mar 2006. Very good hotel for this price. Clean and big rooms, freandly stuff and convenient arrangement. I do not like many people on hotel beach (but if you want solitude in goa you easy find it) I would not eat breakfast incl in price - not clean and many flies around food. But in front of hotel restaurant is very nice cafe "lasy days" with perfect and very cheap breakfast. For dinner you can go to many restaurants around sorry but do not remember any names. Nice rastaurant on hotel beach ("bosco"). But in baga is best restaurants in goa. Sure you will find fast your favorite. Just watch inside first that it clean... I would not recomend to go to some oldest, famous restaurant on the calangute beach - do not remember name - (each local tell you to go there) - not clean and not good food. If you have more questions write me. Wish you good time in CSM.

Hi, the CSM is a pretty decent hotel, situated only 100mts from the beach and with a lot of restaraunts close by. Bernards restaraunt is especially good. Never stayed at the CSM personally but have friends who have and they spoke favourably about it. With regards to your question about the Dudhsagar Falls i have quiet a bit of info on my Goa pages which you may find helpful.....regards....Eddie

Travel Tips for Goa

visit the capital Panjim

by hanspeter_W.

Panaji welcomes the tourists not with tourist sites but with its character. Apart from being the capital of Goa, it is also the focal point of tourism in Goa and a small and charming city on the banks of silvery Mandovi River. Panaji has beautiful, red-roofed houses, built in the Latin style. But the city does not lack in modern infrastructure and you can find modern houses, well laid gardens, statues and avenues lined with Gulmohar, Acassia and other trees.

Calangute village

by georeiser

The local village of Calangute is in the forest close to the beach. People live a simple life here and it is very quiet in the dusty streets.

Cultural diversity and peaceful co-existence

by Rupanworld

Goa is a perfect example of Cultural diversity and peaceful co-existence. For many centuries Hindus and Christians (and a pretty big population of Muslims) have co-existed peacefully here respecting each other's religion and absorbing the good sides of the other's religion into their own religion. The impact of Portuguese culture is evident and this is because of the long rule by the Portuguese here.
