A little peice of heaven

Stay was for 3 weeks but nowhere near long enough, back again in Nov 2009.
Hotel staff are friendly, will do anything in there power to help and are constantly working to keep the place looking superb.

Beautiful

A spotless hotel. People are lovely, and we found the restaurant excellent. A little dearer than eating outside but still a pittance of what we would normally pay.
I booked this hotel because of the reviews and the fishing. Looking over the lakes at night is beautiful'
A little off the neaten track but within a Irp 150 of the beach.
Rooms are a little basic but spotlessly clean.
Laundry service is so cheap it's not worth bringing too many clothes with you. barbers and manicurist etc is very cheap.
On site tailor is a little dearer than in town but quality is first class. Beautiful made to measure silk shirts £10.00, and I am a big guy that uses a lot of silk!
Also leather jackets, ties and suits.
Fishing is good fun. Bait from restaurant or taxi into fish market for an experience.
Booked again for October. Roll on!

Tip for Indians Checking in

This is for all the Indians who visit the place. I went for my honeymoon from April 26 to April 30 2007. The Place is nice, peaceful and calm. Perfect for a honeymoon. But alas, The treatment was not upto the mark. MAybe the staff needs to be a little better and courteous. We had called up in advance for booking the room, and I requested the manager for a favour by decorating the room a bit for a honeymoon. I wanted to give my wife a surprise by opening a room full of flowers and balloons. I gave a reminder call before heading there from Goa Airport. When I reached, no arrangement was made. Rather we were given a room where AC was not working. It was hot and humid afternoon. The room needed cleaning. Even after several calls from the room to the reception, nobody came to clean till one hour. My idea of giving my wife a nice surprise had gone for a toss. I talked to the manager and he said, that he forgot. Ultimately we were shifted to a much smaller room but with the same tarrif. I didn't want to spoil the mood of our honeymoon, so I didn't complain. But they took a lot of compromise from us.
I went there after reading the reviews posted by other visitors. But I believe that throughout Goa, they treat ferangis well. But they dont treat indians well. Even outside the hotel there is only one bike wala - Shyam who is a tough guy to negotiate. They cahrge Rs350 for bike which is costlier as compared to standard rate of Rs200 in rest of goa. This place is a little "hat ke" from the city. But a good place otherwise.

Fab base for exploring Goa!

Excellent hotel, clean, friendly, prefect location for exploring Baga, Candolim and other places Two excellent, clean pools.

If you stay here ask for the rooms by the pool at the back of the resort by the lake

Unique Quality: The amazing lakes the hotel surrounds and the market held on a Saturday next to the hotel

Goa's Best for Couples....

Hi I stayed there from Nov 21-25,2006 and completely enjouyed the stay. I will recommend this Hotel to anyone & everyone especially if u r travelling as couple than, u will just love the place where it is located. Very near to Famous Baga beach at the same time away from noisy market and crowd. Very speacious rooms, freindly staff. They have 2 Big swimming pools. I stayed in room# 242. highly recommended or stay next to this rooms. Front portion rooms do not have lake view which is simply marvellous in early morning. U just feel like sitting in the Balcony and watching the lake and enjoy the cool breeze of fresh air.

Unique Quality: Ideal Location, Peace, Very Spacious, Clean Rooms, Friendly Staff, Big 2 Pools, Spectacular Lake View, Near by to beaches at the same time far from noise making crowded market.

Best hotel in the area!

Excellent value for money, clean rooms, linen and towels changed daily. Very friendly and helpful staff. Stay in the new annexe part, better rooms and away from the noise of the nightly entertainment from around the lake area or the restuarant.
Previously the hotel had been a haven for birds, now they are not as easy to find, you need to get out and about to find the various species found in Goa.
A pleasant stay however the area is now far too touristy for us, but the best hotel in the area, great views, spacious grounds and rooms and pleasing swimming pools.Food is fine with varying menus, however J & A's just down the road is fantastic! fairly expensive by Goan standards but lovely!

Great number in Arpora

Marihna Dourada is an excellent hotel, in a superb location.

Its been given various star ratings but for us, we would say close to 4t/ star, as the hotel is just superb.

The rooms are really comfortable with air conditioning, ceiling fan, own fridge, Tv ( just the one watchable channel - BBC world news), and balcony.

Theres theme nights on most nights, however we personally didnt stay for any as there was so much to do out and about the resort. The nights mainly consists of two main nights a week - usually themed around local Goan cuisine/music, and the five other nights is generally low key entertainment with local acts.

There is two blocks to stay in with the first being around the main pool, and the second is slightly round the back, with another pool and great views over the lake, we stayed in the later and think this is a little more chilled.

There is one main restuarant that serves breakfast, snacks through the day, and then put on a seperate menu for dinner. Once again, we stayed on a BB option, and occasionaly had a snack in the hotel but eat out every night so cant give you too much feedback on the food/service.One quick point about the breakfast; dont let this put you off BUT... the service was quite poor, they are quite slow serving you food and the choice is quite poor, we did raise this and they said they are looking to improve breakfast for the guests.

Personally for us there is lots of restuarants locally which turned out to be superb ( see our section on eating out ) so the choice really is up to you, however on the theme nights they looked brill and put in lots of efffort into these, so may want to try them out.

Lovely views

This is a pretty decent hotel. There are two main sites...each with a pool. It looks over two large lakes...and is close to one of the Saturday night markets. Its great to grab a beer around 5pm and just watch the Kingfishers diving for their tea! Nice rooms...and friendly staff.
There is a free taxi shuttle to take you to and from the beach.

Tranquil

Stayed at Marinha in Feb 2004 for 2 weeks and Feb 2005 for 3 weeks, just booked again for 3wks in Feb 2006. (I do go on other hols as well!) I would recommend it to anyone. It is away from the hustle and bustle but within easy reach of beach etc.The staff are very helpful and it is clean and tidy (in the rooms and in the grounds). There is an excellent laundry and service very cheap and quick. The rooms are cleaned everyday if you want them to be, (if not hang out the notice on the door knob) and you will not be disturbed (know what I mean).
There is aircon and a fridge (minibar) in every room, which is restocked daily. We like the annexe better the main complexe a bit quieter. It has it's own pool and 'bar', (well a table and a couple of fridges but hey!) aswell.
Their is quite a good range for breakfast usually involving eggs!.
Haven't eaten much in the restaurant we prefer to go out and about, so can't really comment on that.

Unique Quality: It is split into 2, the main block around the pool and restaurant and the annexe which is about 100yds away with it's own pool.
They both overlook the lakes and the surrounding wooded hillside, great views. There are fish in the lakes and you can fish for them if you want, no charge. Towels are provided for pools, (everybody takes them to the beach no problem) which you can change everday if you wish.
Baga and the beach is about 1 mile but there is free transport but the taxi fare is less than £1, and there is a taxi rank outside the hotel gates.
There is a 'small gym' for the keep fitters

I am staying there in January, does anyone know if it is better to stay in the main hotel or the Annexe?Which one is over looking the swimming pool and which one over looking the lake?

RE: Marinha Dourada

There are two pools...one for each building...and both look over the lakes!

The annexe rooms are newer and lots of people prefer those rooms. I have never stayed in the annexe as the older rooms in the main building are nearer to the bar/reception etc. As for the view, all the annexe rooms overlook the lakes and most of the main building rooms have some sort of lake view.

Hey Blu you forgot to mention how good All Spice is!!!!

Does the hotel supply a Mosquito net or do I not need one?

RE: Marinha Dourada

by hantslad

Depends what your looking for, if you want to be in a quite location in Marinha Dourada then go for one of the annexes, if you want a noisy environment or want to be looked at whilst sitting on your balcony by everyone eating there dinner in the outdoor restaurant then choose the main block.
We always ask for the middle annexe it is about 20 footsteps to the pool and a small walk to the restaurant and shop area.

Whichever one you choose, rest assured you will have a great time, this hotel is the best we've found in Goa! The staff are great, infact we kept in touch with Peter and Sachin the bar men via email, not sure if they are there this season but if they are they are good to get to know! If you want a bike speak quietly to one of the bar staff, they will sort you out a decent one, we learned this the hard way after hiring a dodgy one outside the hotel with no brakes!

Anyway have great fun, we will be there in February!!

And forget the mosquito net, Take a plug in mosquito repellant and you'll be fine, we buy a pack of coils while are there and burn them on the balcony each night. I have never had a single bite. I saw someone that had though so best to be safe than sorry. They were in a wheel chair with severe sunburn and mosquito bites, how stupid was she.
