Nice hotle, woud go back
by TripAdvisor Member sean22
I thought i should write something about the victor exotica as we found the site so usefull in chocing the right hotle. And foruntately we did.
Being under 30, candolim felt a little bit more for the older tourist but was a nice resort, like many others around the world. The hotel was great, we did have a damp patch in our bathroom but didn't spoil the stay. The staff are nice and friendly and will get you drinks 24 hours a day. Seemed safe and secure.
The only downside to goa is everyone is trying to sell you something 24/7, taxis being the worst, expected with the wealth of tourists, but can start to bug.
I reccomend going for 2 weeks, we went for one. And definately explore a little and head to asvem beach. It was easily the highlight, deserted and away from the resort type feel.
We're go back to goa in the future for sure.

If you are searching for a hotel in Goa, it is best to find a location that matches your interests and what you would like to do and see in this part of India. We stayed at Victor Exotica for five nights. If you are looking specifically at Victor Exotica, here is what you should know:
The Good:
1.)The room are clean, clean, clean. Our room was cleaned daily, and not a speck of dust was in the room.
2.) The sheets and towels were changed everyday and they were spotless.
3.) I didn't get into the pool, but it looked well maintained--but the deep end is 5 1/2 feet or so, so no diving.
4.) The Room Service menu was limited, but what we ordered was always tasty.
5.) The Room Service staff were always friendly--one night they took more than an hour to bring our dinner, but they gave us a cottage cheese dish on the house to make up for it (we didn't ask for it--so at least they were trying).
3.) Breakfast was not bad. There is a chef who will make eggs for you any way you want, and he was very nice and helpful. Usually there are beans, some sort of meat (sausages, bacon, ham), cereals, toast, hash browns or roasted potatoes, toast, bread, juice, tea and coffee. There is always one Indian dish but usually with not enough accompaniments to be enjoyable.
The So-So:
1.) Hot water issues: We could only get lukewarm to warm water in the mornings, the rest of the day, we had to shower in cold water. Depending on the time of day, the water supply just stopped randomly and in the middle of a shower we would have to wait a few minutes for it to come back. The good news is that after we were sweaty and grimy from a long day out, we were not to bothered about warm water.
2.) Sometimes it was hard communicating with the staff.
The Bad:
1.) The reception: Not very receptive to the needs of the customers. At any given hour, even with shift changes, the reception was always slow, not particularly warm or friendly, not forthcoming with information, and generally lethargic. This is a shame because other staff members do try hard, and the first impression of the hotel is ruined by the reception.
2.) The taxi services: Most hotels in Goa apparently have taxi services. Of course when we were asking about things to see in Goa, the reception was clueless and not helpful. We stepped out and saw some taxi drivers outside the hotel next door and they were so nice and informative that we decided to hire them.
The Ugly:
1.) Victor Exotica is down a short lane off the main road. Their taxis are across the street, and there are no clear labels/posters/information stands indicating that Victor Exotica has taxis. The receptionists did not inform us either.
So when we drove up the lane with the driver we picked from the hotel next door, we were shocked to be stampeded by the Victor Exotica taxi drivers!! They were blocking the way and yelling at our driver and we were afraid he was going to get beaten up. At this point, the Victor Exotica security didn't even bother to come and see if we were alright. It was very disturbing.
Our taxi driver explained to us that our hotel didn't tell us about them and they were mad thinking he 'stole' us from them, when we were the ones that approached him in the first place. We were not impressed at all by those 'hooligans' and we didn't want to make trouble for the driver we had so we got out and walked up the main road to catch another cab.
After that we had to 'secretly liase' with the driver we knew and meet him up the road to avoid anyone getting beat up.
2.) As part of our stay at this hotel, we were supposed to have a taxi drop off to the airport. One of the 'hooligans' dropped us off, but in fairness to him, he apologized and said he realized later that the driver we chose didn't 'steal us' and that the reception didn't inform us properly about hotel taxis. Of course when we got to the airport, we found out that Victor Exotica didn't inform the taxi driver that it was a complimentary drop off so we had to call the hotel and sort it out. We hope the hotel wound up paying that poor driver!!
3.) If you walk around the hotel do not listen to these men in uniforms who claim they are representing some hotel or the other. They will give you a scratch and win card and then want to immediately whisk you off to collect your prize. Luckily for us, a nice three-wheeler driver saw us being accosted and he waved his hands frantically at us to not accept it. Stand firm and say you are not interested, but these pesky salesmen will waste alot of your time as they are persistent and will not let you go easily. You have to be very firm.
4.) Be aware of phone scams as well, and try to give people you talk to as little information as you can. The day we had to walk up the road and catch another taxi, the driver of the taxi we found seemed friendly enough. I made the mistake of saying where I was from and that we had visited the Spice Garden the day before. He also got our name and hotel info, he insisted on knowing our room number but we refused to give it out. That night, he got a woman to call our hotel, greeting us in our language, saying she was from our country. She said we won a prize from our trip to the Spice Garden and that we won an all day tour for the next day to see dolphins.
I knew she was phoney since she said that the form was filled out in my husband's name (it was filled out in mine). I knew the driver knew how to greet us in our language and that he knew my husband's name. My husband got the call and asked her to call back. When she called back he spoke to her non-stop in our language and she was dumbfounded and we hung up. It was annoying to be hounded all the way to our rooms, even if it was on the phone.
I would not stay at this hotel again.
Great location, fabulous staff, nice hotel

We stayed at the Victor Exotica from 14th of Jan for two weeks. The hotel was very clean, our room was cleaned daily and fresh linen and towels were provided daily.
We had a small problem with insects, the manager rectified the problem instantly.
The pool area was constantly cleaned, there are plenty of sun loungers, some of the loungers were shaded for most of the day but as it was so hot it wasn't a problem.
The rooms were fine, we had twin beds which were a bit hard for our tastes but everything we needed was there, there is only hot water for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening, agan this was not a problem as a nice cold shower after a day on the beach was very welcome.
The food was varied and plentiful, there was always lots of choice at each meal time, fresh eggs were cooked to order at breakfast, there was a choice of cereals, fruits, bread, usually beans, hash browns, sausages, bacon and lots of Indian food which caused a few complaints from some of the guests, the hotel caters for many tastes, there were themed nights where the chef would "theatrecook, " the pasta was great, also the fish and steaks, all good.
The included drinks were fine except that diet coke was not included in the plan so that had to be purchased seperately which was a bit of a pain.
The hotel is convenient for some lovely restaurants and for the beach, we didn't like the beach sellers contant hassle so used a taxi to get back from the beach, very welcome after a busy day sunbathing!
There is a fabulous little shop beside the hotel which sells most things and from which you can phone home really cheaply.
The hotel is at the end of a little lane, the busy busy candolim is a few minutes stroll away but you can escape it if you want to. There were various entertainers at the hotel, some were good some were bad, all were entertaining in their own way!!
We enjoyed our stay, we had no tummy troubles and no mossie bites, we would recommend this hotel to others.

We are staying in the Victor Exotica in December, has anyone stayed there before? What's the food like and are the rooms as comfortable as they look in the brochure?
