by acemj Well, my dad's company must have picked up the tab for this one, because I know he wouldn't have shelled out the big bucks for it. I remember eating in the hotel restaurant and enjoying some great food. We had afternnon tea as well and spent much of the time swimming in the pool. We stayed in hotels in both Delhi and Agra. The temperature was so high that we felt that the luxury of air-cons was an absolute necessity. The places we stayed were nothing special to recommend, all I can say is that Agra was quite expensive compared to other places and Delhi as well a bit more expensive than we had expected. In Delhi we stayed in the touristic Paharganj area just opposite the train station, which was great, we happened upon a couple of travellers we had met earlier - typically the foreigners flock together... Pushkar Palace by Paul2001 When I arrived in Pushkar I found myself under budget so I thought time for a little luxury. So I sot out one of the nicer hotels in town to see if they had any rooms. I lucked out at the Pushkar Palace where I was put up in one of the more pleasant rooms that I stayed in, in all of India. Big fluffy bed, 24 hours hot water and great view of the lake. Actually the quality of the rooms vary greatly here. Some are mere holes in the wall for a cheap price of 200 rupees. Mine was quite lovely at 1150 rupees ($30.00US). They all are well kept and the location is great. The staff here did a great job in getting me a room in an equally nice hotel in Kota and arranged a car and driver to that city.
The hotel is very peaceful and has a great courtyard garden where you can relax, drink tea and have a snack. There is also a very nice breakfast room. The palace used to belong to a maharaja and has a very upscale and old world feel to it. Bombay13725 by vaticanus Bombay has budget hotels or hostels for tourists- but the prices are still European ($20 starting) unless you want to try a jhopadpatti (seriously NOT) but there are alternatives: Get a hotel in a town outside of Bombay with a train station or else a good road connection and daytrip into the city. OR you can check your luggage in Victoria Train Station (They will hold your luggage for a nominal fee + tip). Open 24/7. Now you can go to Elephanta and follow up on all the VT tips you've carefully written down! At the end of your daytrip, grab a train (or bus) and ride out of Bombay to your next destination.
Unfortunately, this tip will not help those of you who have arrived on international flights at the ungodly hour of 1AM. If you do not have a hotel reservation you will find crowds of touts promising to take you to all kinds of hotels at all kinds of rates. There is no escape. You are miles from anywhere. Consider yourself to be in a kind of kidnapping. The best you can do is use VT to find a hotel (You might want to try the following site: CheapSleep. If you are roomless- rub your rabbit's foot for luck and rely on instinct and if you bargain a price- get it in writing! The drivers work for a commission from the hotel which may not honor promises they make to get you into their vehicle.

The Facade of the Narayan Niwas Palace Hotel by Paul2001 The Narayan Niwas Palace was the most overpriced hotel that I stayed in India. It looks great from outside but don't judge a book by its cover. For top rupee by Indian standards I got a very plain room with weak plumbing and only moderately clean. Oddly enough it did not even have a TV. Not that I travelled to India to watch television but for 1100Rs I expect a TV.
Well someone in the hotel did offer me a hooker but I declined. Actually there are other forms of local entertainment offered by the hotel in the way of folk music and dance. The restaurant was good and affordable. The courtyard bar was a good place to suck back a Kingfisher in the sun after touring Jaisalmer. There is a pool but it is surprisingly gloomy.

We took the top floor room and you had to agree wit the name of the hotel as the views are awesome !! Nice sized clean en-suite room with satellite TV for 400r per night (after a little bargaining) Friendly Staff – a Good Place to stay !! by Kulprit Mumbai - or Bombay as it was formerly called - boasts a number of superb hotels. For me, though, a trip to Mumbai is a chance to step into the past. Beautifully located near the Gateway to India on the sea shore, the Royal Bombay Yacht Club is a building of proudly decaying grandeur. From the smartly white marine uniformed porters at the door to the little old man who serves a limited and English breakfast, service is old world. As soon as one enters it is like stepping into an Agatha Christie novel. A pipe smoking tweeded chap with handlebar moustaches reading Punch in he corner would not be out of place. The hallways are lofty and solid. The lift is an antique but functions well. There is a members bar where a correct dress code is expected and one might be politely asked to remove ones shopping to ones room as it gives the place the air of a trainstation rather than a gentleperson's establishment. The rooms must once have been splendid. They boast high ceilings, balconies and solid old furniture. Rattletrap air conditioners still do the job admirably and the toilet pots would not look out of place in a museum. However, they certainly don't look out of place here either. After comfortable nights sleep your door opens upon the morning paper which I inevitably take with me to breakfast. Here you are given a small chit of paper with your choices upon. Eggs - boiled, fried or scrambled, Orange juice or fresh fruit (mango) and tea or coffee. Afterwards, newspaper tucked under my arm and sporting my best linen jacket, I step out into the city streets, feeling like I'm stepping back out of a time machine into the present. One hitch. To stay there you have to be in an associated yacht club or be recommended by a member. This, though, shouldn't be a problem for anyone with a bit of imagination as the Royal Bombay Yacht Club is associated with most major yacht clubs around the world so get onto your sailor buddy and get it sorted before you arrive there.

Hotel restaurant at the Hotel Anurag Resort by Paul2001 This was a relatively stress free place to stay for a couple of nights. The rooms are not particularly decorative but they were clean and had hot water. The hotel had a restaurant with decent food. It was also a great place to meet other travelers.
I found this hotel to be very helpful in my quest to see a tiger at Ranthambhore. Firstly, I needed to get to a bank to cash some traveler cheques and these people actually drove me all the way to the bank. Secondly they made all the arrangements for my safaris into the park. Interior of the Great Kabab Factory by oldmonk_92129 This is a very nice place. I stayed here for 6 days. However this is not for the budget traveller (USD85 and up per day). It has at least one world class restaurant, three other very good ones, a bowling hall, a sports bar and a convenient fitness center.
Very close to the airport. Superbly sumptous complimentary breakfast. A nice full size pool and fitness center. A one of a kind restaurant in the 'Great Kabab factory'.
