Bikaner House by AndreSTGT Anyone who visits Rajasthan should at least once splurge and stay in one of the former Maharaja palaces which have been turned into beautiful hotels. The Bikaner House is the former summer residence of the last Maharaja of Bikaner. What i really loved about it, is that it has not yet been turned into a luxury hotel, therefore it has a lot of charm and old-world atmosphere. The suites (2.000Rs.) are huge and stylish and though they're not luxurious in the ordinary sense, it's a place where one feels and breathes the spirit of a past era.
A little story : we went down to the reception and asked the concierge to buy us train tickets. An old woman who stood next to us at the reception and overheard our conversation told us that she will buy them for us, since she had to go to a travel agency anyway. Well, this old woman turned out to be the daughter of the Maharaja and she actually went to buy us train tickets. Hawa Mahal, Jaipur by AndreSTGT Very pleasant hotel in a beautiful little palace. The rooms are quite basic and slightly overpriced (425 Rs. a double), but great ambience has its price.

View from the rooftop by AndreSTGT This guesthouse has not only a great location in the blue city, but also modern and tidy rooms with a view on the most impressive fort in Rajasthan. Not cheap (500Rs. for a double), but worth it.
Good food and sensational views from their roof top restaurant. Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Within the old blue city of Jodhpur

View from the rooftop by AndreSTGT This hotel is not in the LP India, which means it has to work harder to attract customers. It's in the main traveler district on Lake Pichola and offers modern, clean rooms with attached bathrooms for 200 Rs. Great value!
Look at the picture! What a view! Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than average

A room with a view by AndreSTGT Hotels in Bombay are about two or three times more expensive than in the rest of India and the quality of the rooms is often very poor. We took a look at at least 15 different hotels until we found an OK value room. The Godwin in Colaba is a good mid-range hotel in a quiet neighborhood. Our room had a huge window front with a view on the Taj Hotel and the harbor. The bathroom was quite basic. Still, it's better to pay 1700 Rs. for a nice room, than 700 Rs. for a dirty dump.

Sunrise over Jaisalmer by AndreSTGT This guesthouse in the old fort has ridiculously overpriced rooms, but that doesn't really matter since they let you sleep on the roof. Apart from the fact that it's dirt cheap (30Rs), it's also a lot of fun.
Uniquely bad is the food, but the views from the roof are outstanding. Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Within the fort in Jaisalmer

West End Hotel. Mumbai by Paul2001 This was one of the more pleasant hotels that I stayed while traveling through India. The West End is in a reasonably good location 5 kilometres from the Main Train Station and not too far from the Crawford Market. The hotel has a nice sunny breakfast room/restaurant and a decent bar(not too many of those in India). Not only that but of all the establishments that I stayed in while in India, this one had the best plumbing.
There is a colonial feel to this place. This is especially so when you go beyond the reception desk and see the old courtyard.
