View of the pool from the seventh floor. by SabrinaSummerville From the moment we arrived at the Taj Mahal hotel we were treated as intimate family friends, rather than guests. We were whisked to our luxurious club room on the 7th floor, and check in was done there instead of in the lobby. Having been travelling for more than a day, it was just the touch we needed. The room was very well appointed and comfortable. Our butler was attentive, but unobtrusive. Toiletries were of a superior standard and each night the turn down service was a delight, with little extras such as scented candles and something that I called a dream wish (a tiny card with some beautiful words to take to sleep). We stayed for two nights, then left to tour North India. When we arrived back a week later the doorman remembered us by name. This both surprised and pleased me because you felt they were glad to see you back. Indeed, they must have been - they upgraded us to the Presidential suite!! The restaurants serve a varied and delicious cuisine. We partook of the delicious delicacies at the rooftop restaurant, the main buffet-style coffee shop overlooking the pool, and the amazing Indian restaurant (which had a live floor show). It was some of the best food we had in all of India. While the weather was not great, we did spend a couple of hours by the pool and, once again, we were inpressed with both the facilities and the poolside snack service. This hotel deserves it's place among the Leading Hotels of the World.
The staff here are very efficient in every way. They really care about their guests and want you to feel at home. No doubt, this is to ensure you return - and indeed, I would. Room with a view Chennai (Madras) by herzog63 There are many hotels that are very inexpensive in the towns and cities of India. I do remember that I paid about $1 for most of my hotels in India sometimes a bit more but quite often it was less than $1 US.
Quite often these cheap hotels would offer great views of "local life". I enjoyed just watching people interact with each other. Theme: HotelComparison: least expensive

by sandravdp This is the reception hall of Hotel Bissau Palace. Here you can see that the hotel actually is a palace. When you walk further you can get in to the relax hall, which looks like a colonial livingroom. Behind this room is the restaurant where you can have your breakfast. The walls are covered with shining little mirors that are put up like mozaïc. From the windows there you can see the swimmingpool. Theme: Bed and Breakfast

by MichaelFalk1969 The Villa Jacaranda is a great boutique B&B at the southern cliff of Varkala. The rooms are friendly, with a veranda, and garden view. The location is excellent as you`re only 5 minutes walking distance from the (less crowded) southern beach of Varkala. The owner Ajjay is most hospitable and will give you lots of advice on Varkala and things to do. Theme: Bed and BreakfastPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than average
