Anjali Inn: Clean, close to the airport

by lamsterz

We stayed here the last 2 nights in India. Clean, comfortable and about a 10 minute drive to the international airport in Mumbai.

Superb service - always willing to lend a hand!

Close to airport - far from downtown.

Surguru Hotel Pondicherry: Simple Hotel Good price

by vinaballgobin

It was a nice hotel with practical facilities. The room size was appropriate. The hotel was clean. The staff was very welcoming. The only thing I did not know was that I had to phone the reception to ask for hot water for my shower ten minutes beforehand. However, I phoned at 21H00 and asked for hot water following day at 8H00. Every thing went absolutely fine. Some people speaking French were staying at the hotel and they made a lot of noise till midnight. They shouted in the corridor till midnight. After that, everything was ok and calm. I paid next morning before leaving without any hustle and bustle.

Welcoming staff. Cleanliness. In town centre.

Amaaya Guest House: My home in Delhi

by lynnehamman

Due to the serious transport delays caused by fog in January, we had missed our next onward train connection, and we needed an urgent overnight stay in Delhi. Our friend Ajay (who owns our other favourite guest house, Eleven) recommended this delightful home-stay.It is only three rooms- but WHAT rooms!!!! On the 2nd floor of a very beautiful colonial building in Nizamuddin East, it is a private home, owned by a gracious & friendly lady named Ruuma. Our room was cosy and beautifully furnished. The bathroom had expensive toiletries for guest use. The shower was modern and hot. The beds, we thought, where THE most comfortable beds we had ever slept in on any trip to India-AND it had a hot water bottle tucked inside.
The following morning we woke to a cup of hot chai, the sound of birds, with sun streaming in through the large windows.I went out onto the little balcony- pure delight. Trees, birds and sunshine.
Ruuma gave us the BEST breakfast, served on delicate china- everything about Ruumas place is perfect. I do really recommend a stay here. Having only two rooms available- it is wise to book early.
We eventually had to leave for Rishikesh, and I am sorry that I did not have more time there to enjoy the obvious delights of Ruumas place, and her gracious, warm hospitality.

Unique Qualities: Ruuma has the most perfect garden on her rooftop terrace. It even has a smallpatch of lawn. And flowers and shrubs. The view is lovely.
We loved the soft eiderdown covers on the beds
The hot water bottle was welcome on a cold Delhi night
And the Breakfast was cooked to perfection-omelettes light and fluffy
The peace & serenity

The Manor Hotel Aurangabad: Expensive Hotel with ni Facilities

by anthonyrojan

Hotel Manor in aurangabad Almost disappointment I had checked into this hotel after obtaining assurance from its staff that the power supply to the fans will not stop in face of electricity outage. They assured me that they have both an inverter and a generated to take care of outages. After check-in this promise wasn’t kept and the reason given was Generator was not working. When I complained to the hotel,Staff he t tried to suppress my complaint with some loud unwanted arguments..we have to climb up to the 3rd floor after tiring trips to ajanta Ellora Ultimately we were left to the mercy of hungry mosquitoes. No Hot water Supply Rooms are so Small heardly we can sit on a small table Costly hotel with no amenities location in the most noisy place a big brigde repairing is going on all mthe heavy dust comes whole day unavoidable

Ganpatti Guesthouse: convenient guesthouse

by cilsley

Wonderfully friendly set-up. Picked up from the station ( necessary as it's a long way to the ghats area from the station, and the last part of the journey is pedestrian).
Great views of the Ganges, friendly people sitting around in the colourful, leafy courtyard.

Comfortable and couldn't be better place for ghat-wandering.
I ate mostly at the Alka next door where I have got to know the waiters over the years.

Malligi Hotel, Hospet: comfortable and negotiably cheap

by cilsley

I decided to stay in Hospet rather than Hampi. It was a good decision.
The Malligi Hotel looks rather smart but it is possible to stay in their Indian Businessman wing which is far cheaper than the tourist part and really very nice ( see attached photograph).
I like to walk to my hotel from the train station and this was ( just!) possible.
The daily trip to Hampi was by cheap local bus and, though bumpy, was part of the thrill.
Excellent food and swimming pool.

Lovely pool and the food was v good

Smyle Inn - Delhi: Can I Please Have Some Hot Water and Heat?

by RollingOkie

I stayed at the Smyle Inn in Delhi. This is the alley where my hotel was located in Delhi. It's an area called Paharganj. Lonely Planet calls it "hyperactive" and says that ""with its seedy reputation for drugs and dodgy characters - (it) isn't everyone's cup of tea." I'll second that. I'd call it pure chaos and I wish I could remember reading that statement before I rented a room there. The odds are, I won't rent a room in the area again if I ever go back to Delhi, I don't care how well situated it is. There has to be better value elsewhere. There couldn't be much cheaper. I've come to believe that $8 a night for a room, even in Delhi, may be a little too cheap. Especially when it can be so tough to get some hot water or heat.
