Ranthambhore Regency

This is a really cool place to stay! Accomodation are kind of villas set round a swimming pool! The pool is lovely and the service is great! This hotel has a kind of family atmousphere. Apparently it has better facilities than the luxury hotels in the area that cost $700 dollars a night!

The food is a buffet style and very reasonable, on a good night it can be very tasty! If you want something special you just have to ask!

More about Ranthambhore Regency

A comfortable retreat

by grets about Ranthambore Regency

Ranthambore Regency is situated just 2.5 km from the train station, and 10 km from the national Park, on the main drag through the small town of Sawai Madhopur.

A main building (whe we were staying) and cottages in the ground around the swimming pool. The cottages have terraces overlooking the pool.

Nice big airy rooms with two beds, a small settee and coffe table, TV, telephone, writing desk and chair, dressing room with full length mirror and a small dressing table and stool. En suite bathroom with bath and shower.

A small shop sells souvenirs, books, post cards, clothing and other items. Laundry is available, as is money exchange. One of the first things we did after we arrived was to contact the reception to get our mattress changed. When David sat down on the bed and his bottom made no indentation on the mattress whatsoever, I knew it would be far too hard for me to be able to sleep on.

The mattress was made of coir, and was equivalent of sleeping on a rock! Getting it changed was no problem, however, and within minutes of our request, two boys arrived with a couple of new, much softer, mattresses.

The next morning everyobody else were complaining about the lack of sleep, and number of bruises on the bodies, whereas we could boast a good night. All the others changed their mattresses too!

Have an early night

by grets about Ranthambore Regency Hotel

With game drives starting at 6 am, most people would retire to bed after dinner. For those hardy souls who wanted some wild nightlife, there was a makeshift bar in the grounds and drinks would be served on the lawns.

One night a couple of musicians were playing to a small audience, with a young boy trying to entice a very reluctant group of tourists to join him in a traditional dance.

International Buffet

by grets about Ranthambore Regency

All the food was included in our stay in Sawai Madhopur, as there really was nowhere else to eat in town.

The food was generally very disappointing, a dull, tasteless selction of 'international' dishes. Every day there would be rice, lentils, a potato dish, a vegetable dish and chicken. Some days a lamb dish would be served too (the meat was tough), or a pasta dish (overcooked). The only delightful dish in the restaurant was the freshly cooked nan bread. A dedicated chef would be outside under a cover, turning out nan after nan and cooking them in the clay oven. The would be brought to your table fresh from the over, still piping hot. Mmmmmm
