Hyderabad's Speciality

by chellediva

Good Morning...I have a friend doing some business around India at present and he told me that there is something that Hyderabad is known for, and that it comes from the sea. I'm trying to discover what it is, and thought maybe the VT forums could help! Could you help me solve this bit of trivia? I would be very grateful. Thank you! Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Pearls! That's what Hyderabad is famous for. There is a huge pearl market in the old city area of Hyderabad near Char Minar. But no trip to Hyderabad is complete without tasting another of it's specialties, the Hyderabadi Biryani. It is delicious!!

Pearls......

Re: Hyderabad's Speciality

I've been told many times when visiting Hyd that another name for the city is "pearl city". I've purchased pearls there a couple times. You should go and find this out for yourself, but since you look American (i.e., have money) you should have an Indian acquaintance do the negotiating for you. :-)

Travel Tips for Hyderabad

If you are just coming to...

If you are just coming to Hyderabad, then it is worth taking a flight. Since this is rarely the case, you can take buses/ trains to the city. There are overnight buses from Bangalore and buses from Mumbai/ Goa & Madras
Auto Rickshaws as usual!!!

"Hyderabad...The royal city"

Hyderabad, capital of Andhra pradesh, is situated in the telangana region of andhra pradesh and was founded in 1591.Being on of the most developed cities of India, Hyderabad is known for its rich history, culture and architecture representing its unique characteristic of a meeting point for North and South India, and its multi-lingual culture, both geographically and culturally. Hyderabad has been a place where Hindus and Muslims have co-existed peacefully for centuries.
Hyderabad and secunderabad are twin cities separated by a lake, hussain sagar. However, You wont even come to know the difference between hyderabad and secunderabad.
Airport is located in begumpet area which is exactly in centre of hyderabad and secunderabad. There are few of internation flights flying out of this city also. Main airliners include Lufthansa,KLM, Srilankan, Emirates, AI, Jet. Almost all famous domestic destinations are connected by air-route to hyderabad.
Main languages spoken are Urdu,Telugu , Hindi.People do understand bit of english but it is not recommended while dealing with localides or local shopkeepers.Above is the picture taken from shunya.net showing hussain sagar lake.

"Charminar"

The most famous monument and symbol of hyderabad is charminar, which is located in old city.

"Life..."

Pace of life in hyderabad is just like another developing cosmo city...You will find yourself in fast race as well in slow too. It's not as fast as delhi or mumbai, but definately hyderabad is changing with time.It is fifth largest metro coming up in india in respect to area and population.
For foodies, hyderabad is perfect place to having anything from north to south, continental, chinese, arabic, mexican.
You can pub around a number of pubs, resto bars in hyderabad.Mainly include Touch,BnC,Firangi Paani,10ds,Exotica,sevent heaven,club,99mhz,twisters....n a lot many. You need to have a gal around on weekends if you want to slip into premium ones like 10ds,fp,bnc,touch...n rest is upto you , some time you manage to slip as stag only depending upon your regularity and circle in tht place...
There are couple of late night restaurents which offer food till 2-3am.These include Ohri's on road no 12,banjara hills, another is this Basera in secunderabad and last i know is mignite biryani at green park, ameerpet.
Mostly restaurents close by 11 and sometime they extend it to 11 30/12. I just dont remember name of all but mostly which i remember are north indian and couple of south indian joints. They offer fantastic food , believe me naming them is difficult job but still i can try my best .
These are Angeethi(north indian speciality ,liqor also served here) located on road no 1,banjara hills.Another is Koyla near by same place on road no 1 near music world.Sahib sindh sultan and aromas of china offering indian food and chinese food respectively located in City center mall located at junction of road no 10 and road no 1 in banjara hills. Best Italian food join is Little Italy in jubilee hills.
If you are in no mood to shell out money from your pocket, there is a north speciality cheapest restaurent in town .It is needs located in begumpet.
Most famous chinese restaurent you can find in town is Mainland china(Road no 1 near music world , banjara hills).
Ourplace, exotica, rooftop, terracebay are few of the other places.
