Visit the Charminar. Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah, in honour of his wife, Bhagmati, built Charminar. The famous monument derives its name from the four pillars surrounding the structure. It was in 1591 that Charminar, one of the most remarkable monuments of Hyderabad was constructed. This structure was built to commemorate end of Plague in the state. Elegant balconies, exquisite decorations and a small mosque adorn this structure.


The Charminar reaches 150 feet--33 metres high and is built in tiers. The corner towers have winding spiral staircases right to the top. There is a big arch at the bottom and a small mosque/religious school on the storey. When it was built there were wide-open parks and flowering trees and shrubs all around.
Over the years, though buildings have crowded around and created extremely narrow congested roads This is one of the he oldest mosques in Hyderabad.
From the minars, there is a panoramic view of the city. Markets and many other structures surround Charminar, which adds to its grace like, Shahali Banda, Laad Bazar, Kali Kaman and Patthar Gatti flank Charminar on its four sides. Charminar shows mixed Indian and Mughal architectural styles.

great place for dosas, idlis and traditional south indian/ adnhra food... also have a selection of north indian and chinese dishes, but i wouldnt reccomend that you come all the way to eat north ind cuisine!

good food, but sometimes there can be a bit of a wait to get in.

Hyderabad is the capital of Andrha Pradesh and was formaly the capital of the ancient Nizam empire was founded in 1589 by Sultan Mohamad quli Qutu Shah. Today the twin cities Hyderabad and Secnderbad form one capital city.

The Charminar (Urdu for four minars) is the tourist poster landmark of Hyderabad. This monument was completed in 1591. There are clocks on all four sides of the Charminar installed in 1889. Each side of the Charminar is 20 Meters and the Minarets are 49 meters.
