More about Hotel Viceroy

Wonderful private dinner for 70+ people

by TripAdvisor Member psychomom715

Did not stay here, but hosted a dinner/reception in the Bidri restaurant. The food was incredible! The staff were very accommodating & helpful, as I kept increasing the number of people attending. My original reservation was for 20, but by the day of the event I had more than 70 people coming! Would highly recommend for any small business or personal dinner.

If you can get used to the smell

by TripAdvisor Member Apacheking

This was booked by out company and the first thing that hit us was the smell of raw sewage that flows in front of the hotel. If it were not for the smell that permeates through the whole hotel the place is great.

The food is excellent ....like I said, if it were not for the smell and so-so servie, I would stay here.

Yes, the front desk was less than helpful and there were charges in my bill that I had to dispute.

Very comfortable place to stay.

Stayed here for three nights, and were very comfortable. The room was spacious and clean, the food excellent, and the service always polite. Entertained about twenty people on one night in the restaurant and all were very satisfied. Had a room on the top floor overlooking the lake. The only downside is the limited space for relaxing outside, but this is to be expected in a city hotel. The bed was the most comfortable that I have ever slept in and the room was very quiet. Would certainly go back.

Still sort of smelly, but I liked it just the same....

I really liked this place... even it if did have an odd odor that seems to be present in all the marriotts in India, (what is with THAT?) I think it has to do with the humidity and the fact the the hallways and such are not as air conditioned as the rooms... I don't know, but if you have a sensitive sniffer, be warned. HOWEVER, that said, this marriott is just lovely. It used to be the Viceroy before it was renovated and marriott did a good job bringing it back to life. The hotel room was fun and new... i loved the green accents and the bathroom had sufficient room. The pool area was fun and chic, and I LOVED the fact you got a tray with towels AND sunscreen on your lounge. NICE. Only warning, they do have a lot of what seems private parties by the pool, so if you are on a lower floor overlooking the pool, be prepared for some pounding music. I did have to switch my room upon check in as the room was literally shaking from the stereo system below that was due to go on until 1:00 a.m.! Combine that with jet lag... uh, no. The breakfast buffet was very good, though service a bit haphazard. Had dinner at the indian restaurant and that was very good, including a decent wine list.
Great spot for the business traveler... I would not call it a resort or any place for the holiday traveler. For that, go hit the Taj Krishna.

Not bad but poor location

by TripAdvisor Member VWL_7

Not a bad stay as you would expect from Marriott. The only downside is the location. Sure it is right next to the tank bund but there are no restaurants or shops nearby.

The food was fantastic. Had a great meal at the indian restaurant one night. The buffet was good too.
