Solitary Traveler in Ahmedabad Feb 2008

Hello all! I will be in Ahmedabad Feb 2008 for a few days (exact dates still open)...would like to know if any fellow sojourners, foreign or local, care to meet up in order to enrich the experience. Let me know if you are interested or if you have any 'must-see' items to put on my list of to-do's. Anyone know where I can get some lessons in authentic Indian cooking? Thanks a million!!

I was in Ahmedabad earlier this year – There isn’t so much to do from a tourist point of view – a good museum but the cities saving grace is Definitely Sarkhej Rosa.
Located 8k south-west of the city.
Built by Sultan Mahmud Shah between 1458 and 1511.
The main attraction is the Massive “Tank”, This is surrounded my several Islamic style buildings including the Large Mosque.
Sarkhej Rosa is open daily from 06.00 to 22.00

This is a very interesting site so Don’t miss it if you are visiting Ahmedabad

Have a meal in the rooftop restaurant of the House of MG Hotel in the old city at the end of Relief Road. The food is outstanding...

The kite festival on Jan 14th looks interesting.

I have been to the capital of a Union territory near Ahmedabad called Silvassa.But I can say the food there is a little sweetish compared to the rest of India.If you order Gujrathi thali,you will get to taste a little bit of everything.

Sweets like Basundi and Shrikand are typical of Gujrathi sweets.Dhokla,khandvi,khaman,kachori and khakra are typical snacks.

www.bawarchi.com food section gives a huge selection of Indian food preparations.Let me know if you are looking for anything in particular that you might like to learn to cook :) I might be coaxed into passing my recipe along.

The International Kite Festival is always held at Ahmedabad on January 14, to coincide with the festival of Uttarayan or Makar Sankranti.

It is a joyous day, with a bright sun, clear skies and breezes strong enough to lift innumerable kites aloft. It is in fact a celebration to mark the end of winter, when the heat of summer is still to come.
Kites are flown all over Gujarat, and Ahmedabad and Baroda become cities of kite-flyers, when all other work is forgotten and cares are put aside for the morrow
