Manali Main Street
Vashisht is a village situated 2 km from the city of Manali in Himachal Pradesh. It's a gorgeous little place with guesthouses overlooking mountain ranges, snowy tops & apple orchards... We were the first tourist to get there that year, so there was only the locals & us - later we found out why! Since it was Feb, it was astonishingly cold, all covered in snow and, again, cold! Fresh air was a nice change after the enormous polluted Delhi, but I had no idea it was gonna be that cold.
First we stayed in a room with no heater, so we were freezing our ass*s of till we bought a small heater the fourth day & started buying wood, making fire & cooking... After a week or so we switched hotels, but it was still cold. We were lucky, 'coz there were a couple of really sunny & hot days, so I even got to sit on the balcony in a T-shirt only, going into the room every now & then to cool down a bit. The Sun on that altitude is very strong & it has melted a lot of snow in just a couple of days!
But taking strolls to Manali, Old Manali, climbing the hills to hidden waterfalls & playing Sh*t-head 24/7 made this place a great experience. And finally brought me to the Mountains! :)
