I think the only thing that you will have to watch out for will be the monsoons....because it can be a handful if it rains heavily in the mountains.

Hi I was in Manali May last year and they tell me I was kinda the first tourist of the season for hiking along with the school children who where hiking at the time aswell. I would thought the weather will be good in July, hope I am right.

The weather should be good. I was last in Manali in May 2008 and it was perfect and the season hasn't got started yet, so I think you will be ok with the weather.

There are many hotels in Manali but if you want somewhere a little more quiet then carry on up the road abit but you have plenty to choose from.

I stayed at the tourist Guesthouse but is away from the main part of the town and is on the budget side but had excellent views of the mountains. I think I paid something like 3-400rs per night but I was happy with that. The manager also arrange a 5 day trek for me up and around Hampta Pass Area but not to the top. The trek was execellent and very scenic. Checkout some of my photos for Manali trek on Hampta Pass.

Arjuna Cave

4 kms from Manali near the village of Perini is the Arjuna cave. It is said that Arjuna wanted the weapon from the king of the Gods Indra and he chose this place to meditate and please Indra to acquire the weapon. The place offers a charming panoramic view of the hills and the mountains around.
