I stayed at Rock Manali Hotel (www.rockmanali.com) and had a fantastic experience there. You must check these guys out. They are located right next to River Beas and i even went on a picnic with my husband on the banks of the river. Have some great memories. Their room service is fantastic. I heard from another couple who were honeymooning at that time that the Hotel provided them with a complimentary wine bottle and a candle lit dinner! Their rooms are comfortable and spa is soo relaxing!!
Great view, fantastic room service, wonderful world class spa, excellent food!
In 2005 we got a nice room with balcony with views of the valley and old Manali.
We ate dinner on our balcony and enjoyed ourselves there until the sun went down....And then we could feel the afternoon breeze coming down the valley. A bit cold in the room.
It was just at the beginning of the season and a strike was also going on when we where there. Because of this the menu was slim.
Balcony with valley views!
We were recommended this cottage by our friends in Chandeghar who know one of the owners.
The Gurung's cottages are situated in an apple orchard between the villages Nagar and Manali in the Beas river valley about 15 minutes drive from Manali. You couldn't wish for a better location. It was enough for us just to sit on the veranda overlooking the river and the waterfalls flowing from the Himalayas to have a "true" Himachal Pradesh experience .
Madhu and Rati, the owners, are just about the nicest people you could meet, they really made us feel at home. The food was delicious, especially the papaya with pomegranate with home made yoghurt for breakfast and we were lucky enough to meet Anubahav, their son, who is professional caterer. Anubahav made several local dishes you don't get to eat in restaurants, one of which, the aubergine with tamarind, has become our favourite.
The rooms are massive, you could get a family of ten in without difficulty, we especially liked the veranda but being able to see the snow on the Himalayas from the bathroom was quite a trip!
Bring extra memory for your camera if you go to stay at the Gurung's.
The view, the owners, the food, Jacky and Ladu the dogs.
Two years back I had been in this hotel which is situated near MANALI bus station in the western
park of the town.Hotel hill view has tree storied and may be around 11 rooms. All rooms are clean
.The staff in unforgettable. Their sense of hospitality is worth praising ! Plus they do not surround
you to have trip benefiting any commission to them. The person I Called " uncle" is very gentle .
The hotel gives room to your driver. The hotel does not have any parking facility. For middle class
this hotel is appropriate.
great view of snow clad mountain on the west side.
Opposite from Sunshine Guesthouse we had a look here and decided to stay. It is a wood and stonehouse, with spacious rooms with fireplaces and large balconies. Some of the rooms are set around an internal courtyard. Good views of the mountains and surrounding area. We were told that our room would be 500 Rupees and 100 Rupees for heating. (Room normally 990Rupees). There is a restaurant with TV, Carrom board etc.
We arrived and asked for the heater. It is then that we discovered that only one socket worked in the room, which was above the bed. So no T.V. The man was determined to get the heater to work, we tried to explain that it was the socket not the heater. He even tried plugging two bare wires straight into the mains. We quickly moved out of the way. We were then moved to another room that wasn't as good. The heater worked, but there was smoke and sparks coming from it. We decided not to use it. Then we found that there was no water, so we could not flush the toilet or wash. We were told that we could have a bucket of hot water in the morning, it never appeared. We came back later to find that the socket for the TV stopped working as well.
We checked out the next day (we were charged 400 Rupees) and moved to Johnson's Lodge. So glad that we did. We found out that the ownership of Hotel Pinewood had changed recently.
Pictures will be on soon-more I promise
Peaceful setting. Balconies are large with wicker chairs. Great for the summer if the electrics work.
In an effort to find somewhere more peaceful we took a walk to Sunshine Guesthouse, on Circuit House Road. Described in the Lonely Planet as a rambling Raj era property with working fireplaces in the rooms, we thought that it would be open.
Shut in the winter. Shame looks good from the outside. 350R a room and 250R for firewood.
Good views, peaceful area
We decided to stay here for a couple of nights before looking for somewhere in our budget,as we were arriving late in the afternoon from Shimla.
The lobby is impressive and the hotel is clean. We have a large double bed, satelite T.V, Geyser, table and chairs. The room has some wood paneling in the ceiling, which gives it soom character but not much. There is a fan, but as it is winter we are not using it! The view out of the window's is mainly of the shops opposite, if you look up you can see the snow capped mountains.
We have a thick duvet and additional blanket. We have a one bar heater that we have paid an extra 150R for. They are offering discounts at the moment. Normal rate is 1100 with tax on top, we are paying 847R including tax. Room service is available, I don't think that they have a restaurant.
The staff are friendly, one of them is excited all the time and dashes around.
Clean, friendly and comfortable.
Cheap and satisfactory, best value for money [3.5 USD per night].
Attached bathroom, 24 hours hot running water.
I stayed here less than one week, and it's good for packpackers who need accommodation for months.
Shanti Palace, indeed.
Very pleasant & friendly owner.
You feel like being an integral part the mountainous nature.
The place is ideal for medium size groups. It is aesthetically set and can accommodate a group of about 18 persons. The hospitality is home like and every care is taken to make you feel comfortable.
The hotel is five kilometers before the township and hence is in clean and quiet surroundings. There is the Beas flowing right behind and high picturesque mountains in the backdrop making the setting perfect.

As usualy the package is breakfast&dinner.
We decided to explore Old Manali for places to stay... and since we didnt want to be an expensive holiday, we took up the option of renting a room from one of the locals.
One room with attached toilet. No frills, but clean.
The owner had his kitchen going for us and we could ask for tea. For meals, he would need to be told in advance...
The surrounding area made it worthwhile, and we could hear the the river Beas flowing through the valley down below.
