Dehli-Leh-Leh Valley Area-*Manali*-Mandi-McCleod Ganj-Amritsar-Dehli
by Beefy_SAFC
I'm making the following trip between July 22nd and August 8th. I've been given specific warnings about this route, specifically the Manali Area and Himachal Pradesh. Can anyone elaborate? I've done a little reading elsewhere and am waiting to see what people say as to whether it confirms my own research.

I travelled through this area during the war with Pakistan and it was fine. The local people are most hospitable, while the traders from Kashmir can be a pain until you get to know them.Leh and surrounds are much more interesting and majestic than Manali. Some people are frightened of nothing.

June-July-August-September These are the only months when you can do the trip.
Rain can play spoil-sport, but thats the whole adventure.
Enjoy the Most fascinating, colorful and contrast landscape on this Earth!!!

I am not sure about the weather there around that time, but i can say that travelling would be safe in there.
I was around there this april and i didnt face any problems.
Actually i think that traveling in India is safe, cos you are a tourist and people treat you very different.

Manali is situated near the end of the valley on the National Highway leading to Leh. The landscape here is breath taking.you can see well-defined snow capped peaks, the Beas river with its clear water flows through the town. On the other side are deodar and pine trees, tiny fields and fruit orchards. It's also a favorite resort for trekkers to Lahaul, Spiti, Kinnaur, Leh and Zanskar regions in Kashmir valley. It is known as the SWITZERLAND OF INDIA
