Whistling Pines Resort
Beat the heat!
Our first holiday for this year was in Shimla. Booked & checked into Whistling Pines which has superb views from its rooms. Shimla gave us a very cold welcome i must say, quite literally! We experienced snow for the first time & what better way to have fun. After a great snow time in the resort lawns, we had a hearty breakfast & headed to the Jakhoo Temple, a prominent tourist location. Roads leading to the city centre from the resort were already cleared, accessible even in so much snow & the drive around was simply breathtaking. The whole walk up to the temple was so tiring but worth it. we then spent the day walking around the mall road & picked shawls. About the resort: Well, sitting by the window & looking out at the snow clad pine forests was something i did not expect. Beautiful. The staff is courteous & prompt. Endless tea & snacks with family & very good food both at breakfast & dinner. Warm beds were good enough but we were also provided heaters on request & gave the kids a very cosy feeling. Being from a much hotter region, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay & the winter break at the hotel.
VERY POOR MAINTENANCE
This place is about 20 Kms away from Shimla city. I expected it to be a very nice place, But it was a total opposite experience. The toilet of the room was dirty. The drain flooded the bathroom as soon as I turned the tap on. The carpet in the room was torn and the room was stinking. the service of the hotel is horrible. Overall a bad experience. Never recommend anyone to go there. HORRIBLE HOTEL!
Unique Quality: THE VIEW IS GOOD, THAT'S IT
BUYER (Traveler) BEWARE
This resort and management does NOT work well with people and is not accomodating of situations out of ones control. The management does not run this hotel according to ethical business practices accepted and respected worldwide. We were booked to spend a 2 day visit to this mountain area and due to the weather in Shimla, our flight out of Delhi was cancelled by the airline. The manager, Mr Krishnan, refused to refund any of our the two day reservation fee which was paid in full in advance as required by the hotel. Our travel agencies worked very well with us in this difficult situation but this hotel was very rigid. This is NOT a tourist friendly hotel. Only book this hotel if you are sure under any weather condition, political situation, and other acts of God, that you can keep your reservation or that you don't mind loosing hundreds of dollars in addition to your vactaion.
Unique Quality: We were not able to see anything as our trip was cancelled due to bad weather in this hill station. The weather was not their fault though weather in this hill station may often cause travel delays, however, their policy of charging for the entire stay in the case of an airline cancelation is a very bad business practice.
Directions: Outside of town. Be ready to spend 2000 rupees (about 50 US dollars) for an airport pick up or drop off or any trips into town, one way.
