Raj Hotel: Pretty good!
First off, do not try to get a hotel in the Ragunath Bazaar. They might charge a little less but the quality is drastically reduced. Just not worth it. Instead go for the string of hotels about 150m away. The best from the entire bunch here was Raj Hotel. It delivers better quality but charges less than its neighbors for regular or air-conditioned rooms. The air conditioned rooms are quite clean and big-enough. Three people per night in the busy month of July was Rs800, Rs500 regular; pretty reasonable for the period. The bellboys were a bouncy, likable bunch too :)

Rooms and Dorms: Vaishanavi Dham, Jammu
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine board has built two rest houses for intending pilgrims just outside Jammu Tawi railway station. For the thousands of tourists who reach Jammu daily to travel to the cave shrine, Saraswati Dham and Vaishnavi Dham offer a choice of rooms and beds that are reasonably clean. Food is available at the cafetaria.

Unique Quality: Convenient location for many of those who come in by train to Jammu. To snooze and take a shower before the bus or taxi ride to Katra, and the trek to the cave shrine.
