Srinagar and entire Kashmir have a disturbed area for a long time nearly 20 years. So there is not much of hotels there and house boats are not really very reliable. Since, outsiders ( other than residents of Kashmir) can not buy property here or build any, it is only local rich people they can invest. The owner of this hotel Mr.Mustaq is very rich and very well connected person. He has about 11 such hotels in Kashmir in various places and in Delhi. Since, this is a disturbed area, the hotels need to be built in a very very safe area. This hotel is located in the Civil Lines ( Maulana Azad Road) just next to Office of the Superintendent of Police and other Government offices. Naturally, the area is heavily cordoned off, so you are almost safe from terrorist attacks ( There have been many in the last 20 years ). The hotel is very large having 55 well decorated rooms with a swimming pool. They also have central heating facility which is a must for a good hotel.
Unique Quality: Since, I was given a suite room, I could not be more than satisfied. I had two TVs in the room one LCD at drawing cum second bedroom and the other in the bed room. The hotel has 24 hrs room service, hot & cold shower, a bath tub, tea/ coffee maker in the room, service was always with a smile. They have a Coffee Shop, Sauna, 2 restaurants, handicraft shop etc in the hotel. Beside this their General Manager Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Khandey ( Phone: +91-9906503252) always took care for us. On my request to have the famous Kashmiri Gustava, he also treated us with Gustava one night. It was excellent!

I always wanted to visit srinagar.Is it safe and ideal time regd climatewise to visit srinagar around end of october 2006.
Has anyone visited the same recently ,would like to hear abt the experiences.could anyone point out any tour packages for the same.
also any tips also is helpful.

I went to Srinagar in June and it was ok. Though you cannot predict the situations in Srinagar, the place has been calm for a couple of months. October can be cold so carry some heavy woollens along with you. I will not recommend any tour operators or packages. Just head to Srinagar yourself and choose one of the lovely house-boats to stay in.... they are safe and owners take good care of you....
If you're going for tourism I would recommend going during the summer months, when it is high season in Srinagar, and the city is more occupied and welcoming to tourists.
You will feel like you've gone to a ghost town in the winter.
Despite political turmoils I decided to visit Kashmir in autumn 2008.
And I don't regret! It was an overall pleasant experience and I have been able to see lot's of really interesting places around Kashmir due to my very knowledgable and friendly host and guide Rahim Langoo. I stayed for 2 weeks at his houseboat and enjoyed a lot. It is really calm and quiet. Kingfisher and other birds were frequent visitors. And Rahim has a real good music collection, if you like to enjoy some nice tunes in the evening.
His houseboats are located in Nigeen Lake in Srinagar, at the western shore. Fantasia Houseboat is the name of his group of houseboats.
