Travel researcher as a career
by shettyraj
Hi All...
I'm a bangalorean. Presently working as an engineer.
I would like to takeup a career in travel researching.
Is there anybody who has taken travel reasearch as a career option...? I would like to know how to proceed in this regard (is there a need for a specific degree, or freelancing, who are the potential employers..?)
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Raj

What is it you want to do? What do you mean by "travel researcher"? Where are you currently living: India or U.S. ??

Hi there thanks for the interest you've shown. Yeah I'm in India (bangalore) at present. Though i'm an engineer, I'm not interested in pursuing a career as an engineer. I love travelling. So thought of taking up a career that involves extensive travelling. I got some offers in Sales/Marketing field, which again falls back to my engg stream.
I'm just wondering is there a career which i can embark, where in I get to travel as probably a travel writer or for any media as a part of information gathering team.. etc
My non relevant background is the main disadvantage now. So which is the best way to start in this direction ?

hi Raj
I get you loud and clear...i am stuck in the same rut as you are...doing a desk job, un interesting and mundane...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz putting me to sleep..
the other side of me is kraving to be on the move constantly, you will only have to help yourself by laying your hands on much travel related sites and print material..
I am sure your own land has much to offer to any discerning traveller..maybe you can host your own site and have as much information as possible on the pleasure of travelling...
hang out in off beat places, these are the best places to learn, enjoy and get the real feel of the places..
of course all depends on what kind of interests you have..
you got to keep doing, meaning be on the move,
diplomas and degrees dont help as much as real life experiences do..
Good Luck
I am hoping to be in Bangalore for christmas

St Mark's Cathedral
by Willettsworld
This simple, yellow-coloured Neo-Classical cathedral was built in 1812 and consecrated by the Bishop of Calcutta in 1816. It features some nice balustrades and an imposing portico at the front. On the night of the 17th February 1923, it was seriously damaged by fire. In the following year, whilst being restored, the nave collapsed and the building remained a ruin until October 1926 when the nave was entirely rebuilt. The church was opened again on 7th August 1927.
