Value for money and near the train & bus terminals

From Bangkok I flew back to Bangalore just to catch the express night train to Mumbai.

So I have to spend a night at a hotel near the Central Railway Station, not very very near but if you prefer to walk, it is a mere 12-15 minutes distance walk but I prefer taking the inexpensive auto-rickshaw at INR20, not even half a dollar.

I stayed at Royal Lodge at the not-so prestigious location
of the Kempegowda Bus Stand & Bangalore Railway Station. Between Movieland & Kapali Theater.

The prepaid taxi knows the location though got a little lost. The hotel reminds me of a college dormitory, it's a big building, mostly people from other parts of India and saw some foreigners too. The reception is fast and friendly but not over.

Deluxe room at INR 380 rupees (the best lot), though there are cheaper rooms. Non-airconditioned (Bangalore have a nice weather, colder during that September), high ceilings with fan, clean (as per Indian standard), big bed, with those usual budget hotel wool blanket, 12-inch TV with english channels, frosted glass windows can be opened (slide) but not advisable, not if you are amused with flies. The bathroom have shower, only cold water. Flooring is marble (or ceramics so it's cold on your feet if you don't wear slippers).

Strange thing is - everytime I get out of the room, there is this huge round padlock that you have to use to lock the room which I always find hard to lock (always forget if the key should turn clockwise or counter). Safe to stay here though.

If arriving late in the evening, be sure to bring your drinking water as the hotel does not sell beverages nor do they have a restaurant. I checked-in past 10PM and I cannot find a store to buy water, I went to the Kempegowdah bus terminal where the terminal restaurant is still open, about less than a km. from the hotel passing through the dimly lit underpass. All stores closed, so if you feel a bit hungry, bring something to munch too before checking in.

Unique Quality: In the morning, you'll find some small eateries and restos around, though I did not find any fastfood chains.

Recommended for those on a budget and doesn't need much fuss, highly recommended for a night stay to catch the train the following morning or night.

Check the photos here for their facilities.

Clean (on shoestring standard), value for money!

Good Cheap Hotel

Pleasant, helpful fluent English speaking front desk staff. Hot water supply was hard to get to--you had to let the hot water run for several minutes. No hot water in shower, only in waist-high spigot. Comfortable beds. Very reasonable rate. Pretty quiet. Internet cafe across street. Several moderate restaurants along street opposite hotel. Near one of two big-name bookstores. 1,000 rupee ride from airport. Close to railway station.

Unique Quality: Good value for the money. They take credit cards.
