female training in Bangalore

by KeshaRai

Hi, Im coming to Bangalore in December for anything between 4-6 months for more or less full time training in Kathak, Contemporary and Kalari alongside my graphic design internship. I have been to India 4 times now and am a british indian, however this will be my first time as a girl alone in a new city. I guess I want comfort on the usual things, accomodation safety, travel safety and I really really want to make friends...genuine ones so I feel im coming to someone I know. Also if you have any info on good dance schools id appreciate it and also about how much fees should be ( i want to check im not being ripped off as a young female foreigner as it happens without fail on each trip. haha
please help me

There is a very good website for travel in India called India Mike. Try this question there. I am sure you will find heaps of good suggestions.
Not that VT is not good for this. Just that there are more members who either live in India or have travelled to India and are in a better position to advice.

Looking at ur query...I can depict two things
a) Even though u have been to India earlier u have never been to Bangalore.
b) Being travelling alone u want to be PRE-acquinted with the place.

But u had not mentioned whether u had already finalised on ur accomodation etc.

Being the software hub of the country, Bangalore offers a great amount of option both for foreigners & country people. By n large, city is quiet costly and u have to be careful on this part. Autorickshaw(s) are costly not by official rate but by their own rate i.e they prefer to go not by official rate but by their own rate....be careful on it.

Living in any Indian city is always safe if u follow certain precautions i.e don't let urself alone outside late in the night, Cloths shold be decent to refrain from extra attention(s) etc.

As far as making GENUINE friends......it happens only when u start going to ur classes. Apart from that, u may also find good friends by healthy interaction.

Conclusion: Don't worry and feel safe.

As far as Kathak classes are concerned, I will try to find out the same.

Keep Smiling
Vivek Dadu

Travel Tips for Bangalore

Milling around in MG Road

by Fudge about Bookstores

India is a fantastic place to buy books. Just spoil yourself and buy for the entire year! really.

It's so cheap! :)

There are a few good bookstores on MG Road (Mahatma Gandhi Road).

Just pop into any of them and immerse in them books :)

Enjoy! Things are in the range of S$9 - S$40 (Singapore dollars).

Ride Horses like royalty

by bradbeaman

You can ride horses at Princes Riding Academy at Palace Grounds. At one time in history the Woodeyar family Princesses actually rode horses here (I am guessing) when they ruled one of the wealthiest kingdoms of the world (Mysore).

It is great for kids or adults at about any horse riding level.
