hi there
im visiting bangalore and surrounding destinations.
iam taking the tumkur road and travelling upto banavara/kadur to visit either cmaglur or halebidu.
wanted to know if there is a direct roiad from banavara to halebid temple?
how good is the road from kadur to chikmaglur?
is it better to take the route from hassan rather than the tumkur kadur road?
can one practically save time and kms if you travel from banavra to halebid via modale and javagal?
also wanted to know if you can travel to mysore from chennarayapatna via kriahnarajpet has anyone done this route?
regards'
praveen
YES there is a direct road to halebidu from banavara which is 25 kms only.
From kadur take the arsikere route to banavara and then a road goes to halebidu take that.
Yes take the route chanarayaptna -krishnarajpet-pandavaura-srirangapatna-mysore.
The route is good
Since your query has been answered by mssthirdeye, let me add that why are you looking to do either chikmaglur or Halebidu? They are very close to each other so look to do both. You can even camp at chikmaglur and ensure that you also see Mullaingiri (The highest peak in South India), Kemmangundi, Bababudaingiri (Has some laterite caves) before returning.
we stayed in Hassan and took the bus to Halibidu. It was a long bumpy ride and the roads are pretty bad and slow. through the rice fields.
IT IS WORTH IT. and please, do NOT miss Belur. I actually think the main temple in Belur was the most incredible temple out of all the temples in south India. simply stunning, and very ornate and detailed.
so really, enjoy!

Located on the outskirts of Cubbon Park is the Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum. This place is really for the kids, it was kind of fun and is worth a look.
The museum itself is huge, there are about 5 levels, each level has 2 'categories' for exhibits. The exhibits are OK, a lot of them dont work, but all of the kids seemed to love it
Entry is just 25/- (less than a dollar)
