As most of the main shops are close to MG Road, Brigade Road, St Mark road, I would suggest you look a hotel in this area. Plenty of restaurant are nearby, after it depends on your budget (200 or 1000+ roupies).
Otherwise, close to the train station, you find more small shops, street markets.
For modern shops, try the Forum Mall and for nice handmade clothes, Fab India in inner ring road.

Hi There...
I think as per ur requirement..it would be a good idea if u stayed at St.Marks road..there are 3 decent hotels...of which St.Marks hotel is a little more expensive...but a nice place...and other than that there are 2 other hotels which are also very nice called Nandini Hotel and also Nahar Hotel. U should get a room in about 2000 bucks in these 2.
Other than that if u wanna move away from the mgroad and brigade road area, then u will end up moving quite far away from the hotel as well.
One more area which is very nice to stay in is Koramangala...it is also close to the airport..and there are a couple of good malls there and also lots of shops..so it wont be boring at all.

When u coming here anyways ? and with who ?
If u let me know...then maybe i could show u around and also get u a decent hotel to stay in...going to a hotel with a "local" could help u not getting fleeced !

Let me know !
c u around !

Travel Tips for Bangalore

Strangely Chinese

by abi_maha about Three Quarter Chinese

Though the name suggests this restaurant serves great Chinese food, it also serves some great indian food and chaats outside :) Catch the lunch buffet on weekdays for a good deal, do ensure you skip your breakfast to be able to sample the spread completely!

bangalore -my city

by lavnya

"bangalore (namma bengalooru)"

have been in bangalore for the past 8 years- this is where i work and live.
bangalore has beautiful weather compared to other metro cities in india.
my favourite months are november-december when the air is chilly and the weather cool.

june-oct are rainy months.

Bangalore has been growing and many times i have thought it unfair of people to go on building commercial spaces without caring for the environment. Because bangalore is a beautiful place with lots of greenery.

You can find buildings of all shapes and sizes without any design being built for commercial purpose.

But bangalore is home to the world's best IT talents and artists too
people are warm and friendly and bangalore still retains some of it's old-world charm today.
There are lots of places to visit in and around bangalore. But if you are an average fitness freak, i recommend jogging in the early hours of the morning in Lalbagh-the green park located in the city.
