Monsoon in Bangalore

by Jessamy

Can anyone advise what it is like living in Bangalore during the monsoon season?

When do the rains tend to arrive and is it a bad experience? Is there still sunshine in-between?!

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jessamy,

Well, last year was even worse than normal for Bangalore. But based on the 4-5 years that I've been here, it usually starts off in May, and remains quite intense till August. It continues to rain till October, though perhaps not so frequently.

It tends to get rainy in the evenings, even though you might have bright sunlight during the day. The good side to this is that it washes away the pollution in the atmosphere, and cools the temperature down. The negatives are several :

- Traffic is always affected, and the roads get new potholes, becoming even worse to drive on (not that they were great to start with anyway).
- Power outages when there is intense rain
- Poor drainage systems in Bangalore means stagnant water, which is a breeding ground for mosquitos.

This year, though, we've already had a few showers this April. Hope last year is not repeated.

Hope this helps,

Vishal

Jessamy,

In short, Bangalore during Monsoon season is quite liveable, though not very pleasant at times. Rains arrive during late May/Early June and will last for till about Sept. Except that there will be some water logging and fallen trees leading to some traffic snarls, it wouldnt be a disaster. There will be about 2-3 extended spells of rains which last for a day or two with hardly any sunshine. But for these spells, there will be sun-shine and rains alternating. One great thing about Bangalore rains is that the morning after the rain, you will hardly notice it has rained.

regards
ramesh

Travel Tips for Bangalore

Need to get money whilst at Bangalore airport

by traceyspacey

We needed to get money out as we had no Rupees with us. The rate offered by the money exchange was not worth it. The ATM inside international arrivals does not accept foreign cards.

But if you walk out and go past domestic departure's there is an ATM that takes visa.

Bangalore - A High Tech Capital of India

"The Wonderful Greenary vanishing"

Bangalore was always one of the best cities to visit in school / college days. A Faily well planned city for India standards. Decent roads and a lot of greenary, corrpution free cops and a fantastic night life (Pub Scene).

The Bangalore of today is a mess.. a concrete jungle, traffic nightmare, out of the work hotel Tariffs and overall a truly un desirable place to visit. I used to love to stroll on brigare / MG to check out the second hand books as well as drink coffee.. today you can hardly walk on MG, besides stepping on someone's toes and the coffee shops are all replaced by expensive coffe shops with less character.

Its sad to see bangalore of Today... I still yearn for the old Bangalore whenever I visit.
