Mangalore- Coastal Pride of K'taka
by abi_maha
"Beaches galore"
Mangalore is full of beaches, it sure is famous for coastal cuisine (fish, crabs, prawns) and beautiful women! Being an overnight journey from Bangalore we have visited Mangalore multiple times- for friend's weddings, school excursions, office outings... :)
"St Mary's Island"
If you are able to put up with all the fish smell at the port and wait for a ferry to get you to the island its well worth spending half a day in the pristine blue waters. However go prepared, there is no food available on the island, so carry a nice picnic hamper.
"Food- Awesome coastal food"
Being a vegetarian I still had an awesome spread of nice coco-nutty food. However seafood lovers were super thrilled at all they could get to eat! =))
Sea on one side and river on other side of road

"Beautiful sunset can be captured"
Marwanthe Beach is just 95km northwards from Mangalore on the Coastal drive towards Goa.
The best part of it is there is a river called Nethrani on one side of the road and Arabian Sea on other side of the road for a small stretch.
"Playing Frisby on the sands."
There is a pretty good resort "Turtle Bay Resort" (www.turtlebayeco.com) at one end of the beach.
One can book cabana in this resort for just Rs 1000 in the peak season. Food served is really good. We got very good hospitality from the resort people.
One can just take Frisby or Ball to play on the sands. Even one can put hands on Surfing board.
There is opportunity for Snorkelling also which is done at Pigeon Island(20Km -45min boat ride from Murudeshwar Beach). This place is just an hour drive(40km) from this resort. One can really see the coral reef formation and beautiful schools of fishes.
If one wants to sleep by the noise of water feeling the sea moving beside the bed, one can pitch their tents on the beach as we did and just spend good time relaxing the body on the sands.
Though one should be very selective about the location to pitch the tent as by the late night, tides are really high. One of the night, sea water just kissed our tents even. Hopefully, we were awake or else, we would have also made a movie "Cast Away".
