soak in the luxury
by vpas about orange county
The orange county resorts is an amazing place to stay in Nagarhole.the entire resort is situated on the banks of the river kabini which is a tributary of river cauvery. The location is picturisque. The accomodations are cottages which are superbly furnished.they have private pool cottages or cottages with jaccuzi.each cottage has a living cum dining and a simply beautiful bed and bath. The cottages are partly open to sky and are designed with great taste. the entire ambience of the resort is rustic.the food is too good to be true.
nagarhole's best bet
by vpas about jungle lodges and resorts, kabini
we stayed in a cottage facing the river.it was a lovely experience.the rooms are spacious and well furnished, clean and comfortable. The accomodation here includes, food and safari rides.they wake you at 6 a.m. with coffee/tea and by 6.30 take you for a safari ride either by jeep or by boat.then you arrive for breakfast at 9.30 a.m..You can then take a coracle ride if you want.you are free till about 1.30 p.m..After lunch you can laze around in hammocks while children play on rope ladders and tree houses.AT 3.30 there is tea with biscuits and there is again a safari either by jeep or boat.you could come back and watch a documentary film on wild life while enjoying drinks and snacks. At 8 p.m. there is dinner and then you are free to do as you please. It is good if you are there for two nights.
Kabini River Lodge - stay in...
by StephReffey
Kabini River Lodge - stay in the riverside tents if possible!
$110.00 (US dollars) for the first night, subsequent nights are less. This is very expensive by Indian standards, but well worth it! The price is all inclusive, including accomodations, safari trips int he morning and evening and three excellent meals a day. The staff are incredibly helpful and accomodating.
Drive down to the Shiva temple at Nanjangud
by abi_maha
It is a good 40 kms away and makes for a very scenice drive as you cross the kabini river! The shiva temple is revered by many, expect huge crowds on full moon / new moon days. But gives you a chance to wet your feet in the holy waters of Kabini. Very non touristy and nice place to get a typical kannadiga thali !
wild life sighting in Nagarhole
by vpas
We visited the Kabini River sanctuary in Nagarhole and had a pleasant stay. The whole trip was interesting. We went on safaris on open jeeps, went for a boat ride and spotted birds early in the morning, had a coracle ride. There was plenty for kids to do as well besides spotting wild life, like climbing trees, rope ladders and tree houses.

by mudcat1
Hi, we would really like to stay at this guest house in the forest in Kabini, or somewhere similar (our budget does not run to some of the jungle lodges!)but cannot find the right telephone number. If anyone knows of it or can recommend a similar homestay in the Kabini area they have stayedand enjoyed, where we can do jungle safari's from, please will you let us know.We were hoping to go there in the next 2 weeks..

I know of the KSTDC jungle lodges, they are a bit expensive.
Maybe you can check online on India specific portals like www.yatra.in/india-hotels/hotels-in-kabini/kabini-hotels & www.makemytrip.com/hotels-kabini and search for the hotels website, which might give you an idea of the respective accomodations.

Hi Lynne, I followed your advice around Udaipur /Rajasthan last year!
The number you gave was the number we were trying without success. We have since found out from someone helpful on tripadvisor that it is 08222252041, if you ever need it but sadly they are closed for some refurbishment! never mind we can look forward to it on another holiday.

Hi again,Will explore new ideas as the guest house closed temporarily.thanks for the additional advice. I am sure we will find somewhere soon and we do know a lovely homestay in Wayanad close by- but not the same as sitting in the forest at Kabini at night!

Hi - definitely head to Nagarhole National Park. The elephants are wonderful as well as all the wildlife on the Kabini river (be sure to spend some time in a boat or coracle on the river). You'll also have a chance to see tigers, but if you don't there is plenty of other wildlife to enjoy. I'd recommend at least spending an overnight there so you can do a jeep safari and a river trip. I stayed at the Kabini River Lodge and they had several types of accommodations for different budgets. I had a great time! Enjoy!

If you make it explicit your not husband and wife, hotel management and cops will be a problem, just go like husband and wife.
Ginger is a good place to stay, self check-in and good rate's around Rs1000/ a night for 2, with breakfast included.
Take a car if you plan to go to Kabini and or Virajpet/Mercara(Coorg - has a lot of homestay options and hotels which are reasonably priced). Bus is fine, but might be tiring.
Food is reasonable at Mysore and Coorg
Kabini accomodation is expensive.
There's a bird sanctuary - Renganathittu on the way to Mysore, look into online maps, its 20 kms before mysore take a diversion.
8k-10k without car costs should be kind of fine, transportation cost apart, unless you are adventurous and take bus to all these places.

The Palace is one place, Brindavan Garden's is another place to visit around Mysore.
Otherwise, try Kabini or Nagarhole or Coorg for 1 night.
Ooty is also just about 3.5 hours from Mysore, which is another option.
