Devaraja Market ~ Onions & Potatoes
by Canadienne
Because the market is so photogenic (my photos really don't do it justice), you will find more tourists here. Actually, Mysore is quite popular on the Southern route, with good reason. It's a nice town to spend a couple of days in. . .with a good mix of activities and a manageable pace of life.
Travel with a friend
by Fudge
When going off the beaten track, it is nice to have a friend with you :) Or take your family along for a walk along Mysore's many attractions.
Although Mysore is generally safe for lone travel, it is enjoyable to have someone along, esp sicne you see many wonderful things that one tends to talk about.
These fellas made me smile ~ so chummy!
Chamundeswari temple
by cadzand
The Chamundeshwari temple is located on the Chamundi hill and is accessed through a motor able road. Chamundeeswari the tutelary deity of the Mysore Maharajas has been held in reverence for centuries.
The temple is dominated by its towering seven-storey, 40-metres-high gopuram.
No pictures may be taken inside the temple.
The temple is open from 8 am to noon and 5 to 8 pm
Chamundeswari Temple
by Skibbe
Located on a hill near Mysore, it dates back centuries and has been used by kings. The touts are worse here than anywhere I went in South India: as you walk in, one will put flowers on your wrist and later demand money for it and the people who take your shoes will ask for far too much. In the temple, I was given a 15 second tour and it was demanded I give 100 Rupees (I gave 50). Its OK for a brief stop but just be aware that there are many aggressive people who target tourists here.
Souvenirs
by cadzand
If you like to buy some souvenirs as there are sandalwood elephants, boxes, beautifully carved wooden boxes with or without cupper engraving, don’t hesitate, take the opportunity. On top of the Chamundi Hill there are loads of vendors. The quality is good and the prices here are much lower than in the official shops.Don't forget the bargaining.
