Is it possible to hire a cab (Genuine one) from Mysore for one day sight seeing around mysore? What would be the tariff rates? If anybody knows a good travels? Do help me out..
You could enquire at the hotel desk where you will be staying. Fees vary- its very difficult to tell you a cost. We paid R600 for a taxi ( 9am-4pm) in Koltata last year.
If your hotel does not have a travel desk, walk into the busy market area, you will find taxi stands, where you need to bargain. The palace and brindavan gardens are must see, an Indica would charge you Rs400/ for 4 hours and 40 km and Rs700/ for 8 hours and 80km.
Travel's will charge you slightly higher than these taxi stands.
Thanks for ur reply...Iam not going to stay in mysore..iam planning for one day trip...If i can get any cabs from mysore station..it would be good for me...
You surely will get cabs at the station, you will need to bargain!
Typically from 9am to 6pm is around Rs900/ for a cab.

So much more natural than those in rehab centres or controlled enclosures. This family clearly wanted to be left alone. So after this shot, i did leave them alone :) Getting a moneky family to naturally pose for you has to be one of my fondest memories of Mysore.
We arrived in Mysore a week or so after Pongal, so there were coloured cows everywhere.
Named after a rice dish, Pongal is a Southern Indian celebration that begins on January 14 of each year and lasts for three days. On the first day, Pongal is offered to the rain gods for providing rain for the harvest. On the second day, pongal is offered to Surya (the sun). On the third day, families clean and decorate their cattle with flowers, bells and coloured powder. This day honours the cattle's hard work plowing the fields.
This 75 ft high square clock tower, was built during the Silver Jubilee of the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV in 1927. It is designed in an Indo-Saracenic style of architecture with a domed canopy which rests on a base just above the 5 ft diameter clock.
This magnificent royal palace was commissioned in 1897 after the previous palace burnt down during a royal wedding, It was the British Architect Henry Irwin who built it in the Indo-Saracenic style, a style that blends Hindi, Muslim, Rajput and Gothic, it was completed in 1912
It has many splendid features including chandeliers, stained glass, and ornate ceilings and carved doors, the main rooms are the dumbar room, and the wedding hall
It’s illuminated on Sundays, national holidays and of course festivals
Somnathpur, home to the one of the last Hoysala temples, is located about 10 km from Mysore. The temple was built in the 13th century and the detail in the stonework is amazing. . .
. . .but, the temples in Madurai and Chennai are much more lively and fun!
